 Nine Alternatives To Apple's iPhone

Apple's iPhone is the sought-after smartphone of the moment, but it's outside the reach of some people and not ideal for everyone. Not only is the iPhone expensive at $499 to $599, but some IT departments won't support it, making it impractical for professionals who want to stay on the good side of the CIO.

Fortunately, there are many iPhone alternatives, including those with media players for music, video, and streaming content. At prices ranging from $75 to $450, they're cheaper than Steve Jobs' latest pet project, too.
Go to the link above to check out 9 phones that can do what the iPhone does and you won't have to pay $500 or $600 for them.

Why is this news?

I think Apple is getting far more publicity than it should. Who cares about another overpriced piece of shit with apple logo on it?

PI's convicted of computer hacking on behalf of rich clients

»news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6766841.stm
Two police officers who moonlighted as private detectives have been convicted of bugging phones and hacking into computers on behalf of wealthy clients.

Jeremy Young and Scott Gelsthorpe set up Active Investigation Services and ran a service dubbed "Hackers Are Us".

But they were dubbed "Hackers Are Us" in court for the "extras" they offered for a wealthy elite. They used illegal means to provide extra services for clients and had a price list for those services.

For £5,000, AIS would "monitor" - or hack into - an e-mail account.

For this, they used the expertise of Marc Caron, an IT specialist based in Phoenix, Arizona.

He used so-called Trojan horses, which infiltrate computers through a seemingly innocuous e-mail, website or programme, but then allow hackers access to everything on the machine.

Caron pleaded guilty in the US and will be sentenced on 28 June.

Among the computers targeted were official networks in government offices.

AIS was investigated by the Metropolitan Police's Anti-Corruption Command following a tip-off from BT.

Then in July 2004 they began three months of intensive surveillance into what they called AIS's "corporate espionage".
Three cheers for the police for catching and locking up these low life criminals.

 One in three suffer cyber-bullying

»news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6245798.stm
One in three children has suffered from some form of online bullying, according to research from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

Girls are affected more than boys, with 38 per cent suffering compared to 26 per cent of boys.

The most common form of abuse is forwarding personal messages to a group or putting them online on a website.

One in 10 people had received a threatening SMS, email or instant message, nine per cent had had a rumour about them circulated and six per cent had had embarrassing pictures posted online.

The researchers speculated that the ease of duplication of material lends itself to mass bullying. Users of social networking sites also reported twice the level of bullying than those not registered on such sites.
Not surprising. The anonymity leads to some people abusing others when they think they are invisible.

Lame

I haven't seen any articles that there are shortages. In a day or two you will just be able to walk into an Apple store and pick up one. No lines, no hassle.

Note to haters...

Don't want it, don't buy it.

It's not really that difficult of a concept to grasp. So simple maybe even a Windows user can follow it.

Ebay Listings Galore!

»search.ebay.com/search/search.dl···ch&fgtp=

On average people aren't paying TOO high for the phone it seems as though $800-$1200 is the magic number. Although the one for 19K I think is a prank and he/she will have to repost that listing.

AT&T is expanding their wireless coverage area with the purchase of Dobson Communications. A $2.8 billion buy in cash ($5.1 billion including debt).

I'm waiting for the first iPhone related car accident...

Because its coming...

The iPhone has no keypad and no voice dialing... so you HAVE to look at the thing if you use it in the car. iPhone + dumbass owner = road hazard.

I was thinking as I saw some of the iNerds on TV tonight (has anyone else noticed that they seem to be mostly unwashed uber-nerds?) and I realized that I can dial my phone faster, bring up contacts faster, play thousands of Java games, play music (drag and drop mp3s right on the phone), take and playback both photos and video and my phone cost me nothing with the contract (Sony w600i). In less than a year, I'll have a new phone with the latest and greatest features, also for zero additional dollars.

Maybe they should call the iPhone owners iFools?

MySpace again under phishing attack

Users who click fake navigation bars on MySpace profile pages exposed to malicious botnets; several thousands PCs thought to be infected.

The attack is thought to have infected several thousand PCs according to reports from ISPs, said Johannes Ullrich, chief research officer for the SANS Institute. Ullrich has documented the issue on the SANS Internet Storm Center blog.

Criminals have managed to install fake navigation bars on the top of MySpace.com user profile pages that, when clicked, lead to malicious computers that attempt to infect the victim's computer. The attack uses several known Internet Explorer flaws that have been fixed, so users who have installed the latest Microsoft patches are not at risk, security experts said.
These type of attacks are becoming commonplace on Myspace.

Any phone plus dumbass owner = road hazard. As a motorcyclist who rides 600 miles a week to and from work, I can attest to this fact.

All phone use in cars should be banned, hands free or otherwise.

Love the idea

Normally I am a very fast person to jump on the bandwagon of a new item.
Frankly, I admit I am grinding my teeth at jumping at the iPhone. But, I really feel the need to wait for the "next generation" to come out before I do it. Thus, allot of the bugs will be worked out as well as other things....

Now I will continue grinding my teeth.

Re: Pathetic

Take it to the Apple store or AT&T Wireless store for repair or replacement.
