Well, It would be funny, if the iphone bombed because of bad service of AT&T and Apple has a 5 year contract with AT&T.

| Great Fun
While it's all great fun to tease the iEverything Fanboys about Apple's poor choices implementing the iPhone. Remember all networks go south from time to time. The timing of this outage just makes for more fun teasing the iFanboys, nothing more. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well. |

| That's what happened....
It was real annoying last night, about 7pm the internet went away and it didn't come back for over an hour. Even after that I felt like I was back on Dial up with my Bellsouth Xtreme 6.0 service. It was about useless all night long, not that it is not normally that way all the time.
In fact it really is close, seriously, it is impossible to even be a gamer on the BS network. The best pings I get to any server, any game, is in the 90ms range. It really, really sucks..... |

maybe when AT&T was installing a new NSA secret room for BellSouth area, someone forgot to reconnect that orange cord. |

| Design Issues on AT&T's side probably.
My guess is AT&T has some stupid design for their AAA complex. In a ISP design as large as theirs it should be broken up into smaller areas so you do not lose the entire network. To have the entire network go down in this fashion for one device sounds like user error on the AAA database that killed off authentication for a specific device. The only problem I have with that is I've never heard of AAA being used to ban devices.
*shrug* sabotage
Course AT&T and company are known for network wide outages for various reasons.
Apple prides itself with being the best, but they locked their shiny new device down on possibly the worst cellular company in America.
I can agree with the price of the device. What I can not agree with is carrier locking. Apple could have sold in all their channel partners and would have received near or better product sales coverage than just sticking with AT&T. They could have negotiated features with the cellular companies as well. Let them handle customer service for cellular related features and have them handoff for anything else.
Never made sense how they rushed into this product and never stood back and checked their alternatives. -- Mac Chatter »www.macchatter.net |

You aren't paranoid if they really are out to get you. And there has been plenty of evidence to that effect... |

When you think about it, it does seem as plausible as any other reason. Maybe even more plausible, since they didn't have a pre-prepared lame excuse. "We can neither confirm nor deny the cause of the outage." LOL.. |

Would they have gotten as much money, though? I'm willing to bet AT&T paid plenty to be the exclusive carrier. This isn't about being innovative. You mean kind of like when Comcast went down nationwide a couple years back because someone had the bright idea to centralize the DNS servers? -- Laser eye surgery rocks! I love frickin' laser beams. |

| Not Juet Bellsouth region....
Up in ameritech region we had alot of the same issues last night and the night before, requiring rebooting the modem. Sounds like either planned maintence gone wrong, or a failure somewhere in their backbone, as we had sync and route, just a VERY VERY slow route! took almost 3-5 minutes just to get yahoo mail to load up. |

It seems more then a few areas and services were affected.. most of the west coast's Comcast users that route through AT&T went down as well.. (though only for approx 40 mins)
I suspect AT&T lost a feeder run somewhere (mid west where it's flooded perhaps?) |

said by Enlightener :You aren't paranoid if they really are out to get you. And there has been plenty of evidence to that effect... Really? And what evidence might that be? If your specifically talking about the whistleblower mark klien I wouldnt call that evidence..it could simply be a disgruntled ex-employee who thinks he knows something.
If you remember correctly, there is no evidence that has been released to the public. Everything is under a sealed court order...
I prefer to think your innocent until proven guilty, obviously, you have already judged, condemned, and executed ATT without any proof.
Before you go off on me being a "telco fanboy" I am not. I simply state that there is no proof either way at this point. No proof that we have anyway. The government knows what they have done and what the phone companies have done. If wrong doing has occured, then by all means let the proof come to light, and burn at the stake if need be...but not until that proof comes to light.. |
