I guess my ignorance is in not knowing who Linkshare is.
I picked up my phone today & dialed my cell phone to test & it still works.

Linkshare is an Affiliate Marketing Network »www.linkshare.com
Basically SunRocket is not paying their bills on time to people they owe money for referrals. --

| reply to sandwidth Linkshare is an Affiliate Program which has to do with marketing, not providing service. Linkshare was brought up because they are saying SunRocket's credit is worthless. They're essentially saying SunRocket can't/won't pay their advertising bills.
If they're in a cash crunch the service may fail at any time as their providers cut them off for nonpayment. |

I won't be surprised to see a bankruptcy filing any day now so that they won't have to shut their doors. Then they will be on the block at firesale prices.
I wonder how long these investors will wait now? »www.lightreading.com/document.as···d=102288
The Vienna, Va.-based firm says the new money is its third round of funding, and that its funding total is now $80 million. SunRocket says all of its existing investors -- BlueRun Ventures , Mayfield , and DCM - Doll Capital Management -- pitched in for the new round, as well as a few new ones: Varma, The Grosvenor Funds , and Brú Venture Capital. »www.brv.com/news_releases.php?nid=133
"We fully expect that SunRocket's innovative approach and seasoned leadership team will enable the firm to pull away from the competition and emerge as a winner in this space." I'll bet he is regretting those words now. -- -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page |

1 edit | I've had SR for a year and a half...
I guess I have 6 months left before I care if they go under... still at almost (a whopping, NOT) $8.30 a month total(inc all taxes & fees - there were none!) if it averages over 2 years, or worst case scenario if it stops tomorrow -> I still get my phone for what ends out to be $11.35 per month :P Again - No additional taxes or fees. Free caller id, a second # voicemail, and more!
I don't care though because I'll go SkypIn & SkypeOut for even cheaper ($60/year skypein and $30/year skypout)! Just get Skype wifi phones or use the linksys Skype to phone adapter - now thats VoIP on the cheap - besides I use my cells more and could even get away with a 500min package at home if I had to use (ugh Von... er wha whos left thats not going under? :P) ...
Actually I think I'll hack my ATA and use it as a SIP and use a free provider to get an incomming number (ie »www.ipkall.com/). Outgoing, hmm... |

doesn't sunrocket use their own patents? let's just say that vonage loses... couldn't vonage just buy sunrocket, use their patents, and combine the customers into one company?
sunrocket got rid of some executives, kinda sounds like they might sell the company, since you only need one CTO, CIO, CFO, and CPO. |

| Consolidation is long overdue
This space isn't going to be able to feed as many baby VOIPs as sprouted in the last few years.
It's time for the best to consolidate and make a strong candidate for fighting the big Telecoms.
The little guys are only surviving because the big guys can't sabotage their marketing tiers cutting their own throats.
As soon as the big guys HAVE to they'll face that music and then there won't be any room for tiny VOIPs to thrive with any degree of vitality.
It's a unique situation they are in... best consolidate now while there are a few of them left with good financial health.
Once they consolidate their customer bases they'll have a better run against the big guys. |

I don't use my phone much, so it might seem silly, but I will not switch to any sort of VOIP because my internet connection simply cannot boast the reliability of my copper landline. It has never failed in my memory. I certainly can't say that for my 'net connection. (Telco: SWBell/SBC/AT&T, Cableco: @Home/AT&T/Comcast/TWC)
I used to do tech support, and I felt no sympathy for VOIP users whose internet connection was out, especially since it was Verizon tech support. If they switched to voip because their copper landline sucked, what made them think that internet provided by the same company would be any better? If they switched to save money, well...
At my house, a basic copper landline wins hands down. Even over FIOS. Copper doesn't go down if the power goes out for a few hours. CO generators > BBUs -- Think outside the fox...Seamonkey |
