| so whats the big deal ? It's the exact same contract that people have now and have had for years, same termination agreement (which is cheaper than most companies), same double billing that most telco have. There aren't many companies that allow video streaming or any use other than basic browsing and email checking. The one and ONLY difference here is that it's Apple and people are gonna try very hard to find fault in something ONLY because they do not like the company. How many of the "iphone bashers" here have ever read ANY EULA or contract for ANY service that they have signed up for?

People have opinions, some with fingers and an internet connection. Guess what happens next?
Besides, the blow-back is in direct proportion to the hype, and the hoopla proves two things: some people love the phone and some people love to express their opinions on why they don't or won't.
Yes, it can be quite easy when you accept basic human principles .

| AT&T IS THE BEST The iPhone sucks, only thing is nice are the screen and animations, everything else is not worth it for the such high price. There are better phones for the same or less price. In addition, I love Cingular (new AT&T). I been with them for 5 years now with no problems. I don't why they changed the name but they did and we cant do anything about it. I am with AT&T because it is GSM and there are more and better phone choices out their as 80% of the world is GSM. Plus I NEVER, NEVER will switch to Verizon. I know someone that switched to Verizon, and I helped, as that person not technologically savaged. After seeing everything that Verizon has to offer I am glad that I am with AT&T. | |

| ATT may suck but Does the author really need to make up stuff?
Can't send email attachments? Not totally true. In fact I just sent a 1.3mb and checking my bill I didn't get charged extra. And I didn't get charged for calling my other ATT colleagues either so I'm not sure where the double billing is coming from.
If ATT is to be blamed it's for their poor coverage. And, billing extra for international txt messages.

Suffice it to say that most of his complaints are off base, some wildly so.

already posted, didn't see it

Sprint Nextel Corp. has taken the unusual step of disconnecting customers who call customer service excessively.
The country's third-largest wireless provider, with more than 53 million subscribers, has sent letters to about 1,000 subscribers terminating their contracts, according to Roni Singleton, a company spokeswoman.
"The number of inquiries you have made to us ... has led us to determine that we are unable to meet your current wireless needs," the letter, dated June 29, states.
The terminated subscribers called an average of 25 times a month, a rate 40 times higher than average customers, Ms. Singleton said.
Sprint, which has been losing market share to the other carriers, has been trying to add more high-spending customers while keeping a lid on costs. The company also has been imposing stricter credit requirements on new customers.
Like other carriers, Sprint disconnects customers who fail to pay their bills. But this marks the first time the Reston, Va., company has cut off subscribers because they call customer service too much.
A spokesman for AT&T Inc., which operates the country's largest wireless network, says it doesn't take such actions. A spokesman for Verizon Wireless, the second largest and a venture of Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group PLC, couldn't be reached.
Sprint has given its terminated customers until the end of July to find new carriers. They also won't have to pay early-termination fees, which are typically required when subscribers exit from their contracts early. "We understand that having to switch to another wireless carrier may be an inconvenience," the letter states.
Ms. Singleton said a large number of calls from these customers were related to billing issues. Some also requested information that Sprint isn't permitted to give out, such as details on other customers' accounts, she said.
"The amount of time being spent to resolve the same issues again and again was affecting our ability to service other customers," Ms. Singleton said. Ms. Singleton said Sprint has no plans to disconnect other customers, but she didn't rule out the possibility in the future. -- I bitch. People listen!!

| Yes there is. Sprint is, IMO, the worst of the national providers. TMobile is better than ATT in most metropolitan areas but worse in the sticks. Customer service for TMobile is MUCH better than any carrier I've worked with. Verizon is over rated and over priced but they do have uniform coverage in most areas, however I still get more dropped calls with Verizon than I do with TMobile. A lot has changed in 7 years so if you haven't compared services within the last 1-2 years I would say it may be eye opening to look around. | |

join:2001-10-22 Euless, TX | Unsolicited SMS's Maybe it's because I'm on an old "Blue" contract from the older AT&T Wireless (before Cingular bought them), but I never pay for incoming SMS's. Are the new plans different?

| Re: Unsolicited SMS's Whatever is in the contracts, the eula, and whatever else anyone can come up with here, these things are either standard or will be standard soon for ALL companies in the game. Bottom line, i've seen the phone in action. Its an awesome phone, gadget, toy, mp3 player, video player, or whatever you want to use it for. If you have actually seen it/used it and dont think so then you just want something to hate. if you already have at&t service (which i dont) and can afford it, go for it. its the best phone ive ever seen and ive owned them all. and im no fanboy of anything i just like cool $#!^. | |

| iPhone getting good reviews Someone in this thread (too far back, and me too lazy to find and "Quote") indicated that most good reviews were due to implied conflict of interest (reviewers can't speak ill of companies who advertise with them).
I'm not sure how true that is with places like CNET and similar ones with excellent reputations. I happen to believe that ConsumerReports is beyond reproach.
Their initial tests, while not being completely favorable (most complaints related to AT&T's downfall in user-satisfaction ratings) seem to indicate that the iPhone, as a device, seems to be pretty decent.
If you have an online subscription, check their review. I believe they are also featuring a "free" access article that is not as comprehensive (and may not be as unbiased, since it takes the form of a blog).

| Okay who should have Apple partnered with??? Sprint: ring ring ring. oops no service outside of the city T-Mobile:see sprint
Verizon: great service with horrible tos
Att: Never had problem with service but annoying tos
So what's left Apple mobile- too late already got rid of the spectrum so what should have they done??
I'm in NJ for people that say there sprint/tmobile service is great. Up until last year couldn't even get tmobile service at 2 of my relatives in the catskills when att was 4 bars. Sprint that doesn't even work going down the parkway

| Get a life I have been reading all the raving and ranting going on this message thread. I am by no means an Apple booster but I am also not an Apple basher!.
I would like to ask these posters a few questions, 1. Which of you have really read all the fine print on the reverse side of your existing cellphone contract. Much of what people are complaining about is found in one way or the other in almost each and every existing contract. 2. How many have actually used the iPhone before complaining of the speed of browsing.
I have been using this phone for the past 3 days in the Bay area and am really impressed with the quality of the product. I predict that 5 years from today, people will be saying that this is the product that created a radical shift in the technology landscape.
By the way, product pricing has nothing to do with what it costs to make. In the "high tech" world, product pricing is all based on what the market will bear.
High tech companies typically look for a 50 to 60% margin when the product is launched fully expecting it to slide in the low teens. The initial high margins is what fuels the cash for R&D and further innovations.
