I'm not suprised they're going to Palm Beach. That part of the state is just rolling in cash and folks who'll pay for it without a second look. When I can get it in Jacksonville, then I'll be impressed. Otherwise, I'm just going to call this cherrypicking. |

Did you guys know that UVERSE runs on FTTP in some areas? Did you know that UVERSE over FTTP is subject to the same limitations as the FTTN? One HD stream at a time, 6/1 internet... over FIBER TO THE HOME. I'm not sure what their game plan is, but why not at least offer the more robust services in the area where they CAN? Cox in OKC is preparing for the UVERSE launch next month, and the offers they're throwing out there are very competitive with UVERSE. Not to mention, Cox here is 12/1mbps with Powerboost.
When UVERSE rolls out here in Oklahoma City next month, if UVERSE over FTTP is not what it SHOULD be...I'm jumping ship. What good is fiber internet if it's no better than the freaking DSL they offer? What good is IPTV if it can't even do things that Cable/Satellite could do YEARS ago? The only thing they have going for them is price, and the cableco's are really being competitive on price in UVERSE areas. -- -Put this in your profile if you know someone who is fighting, has survived, or died from ninja attacks. |

They still don't have power to the VRAD here, and this was a city launched May 1. The neighborhood adjacent just had concrete poured yesterday for its pad for the VRAD. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

So when can we expect Verizon to bring us FiOS now..? With our recently passed franchise reform I was expecting all of them to break ground. While I'm all about HSI competition in FL I'll pass on big brother ATT and their crippled FTTN. -- WRTSL54GS v2 + WRT54G v2 |

| From the report: quote: Elsewhere in Florida, Verizon also is making moves to beef up its cable offerings. The company applied for state franchises for Sarasota, Tarpon Springs and portions of Pinellas County, adding to a cable service area that includes much of the Tampa area.
In May, Verizon announced it would invest $500 million in its fiber-optic cable network, with a goal of reaching 1.5 million Florida households by 2010.
The company, however, has no plans to serve South Florida, spokesman Bob Elek said.

shame on them for trying to recoup some of their investment. they should of rolled out this service in Appalachia first, then no one would have accused them of cherry picking.... quit whining, it would be a very poor business model to pass up the wealthier areas and serve the not so affluent places first. EVERY BUSINESS THAT WANTS TO BE SUCCESSFUL OPERATES THIS WAY! |

Thanks.. So they're still running down the west coast.. I don't know what their problem is. If they came over to the profitable side of FL they'd simply take over. I thought the state franchise reform would help them find their way. That move makes no sense and just further upsets me.. They've been in the state for years now but don't provide service to the east coast.. Even now after the franchise reform they refuse to expand their coverage. I don't get it.

Well... it did have something to do with your original post... We see weekly AT&T updates (which is somewhat overkill), especially when they are months behind on cities that have been live for months. I agree with your original post... the next post about AT&T I'd like to see would be a completion of something. |

| I don't believe it!
Bellsouth was in the middle of upgrading South Florida to ADSL2+ 12Mb/24Mb when AT&T only recently told them to halt further deployment of cabinets and upgrades to existing cabinets.
From what I understand U-Verse uses different Alcatel equipment from that which bellsouth was in the middle of deploying. I find it hard to believe that AT&T will manage to now upgrade all those cabinets to their flavor of Alcatel before year end and launch it. I think its a real stretch. Well, unless AT&T thinks that a deployment is one small neighborhood in each Broward and PB.
Knowing the way they handled the $10 DSL offer and the naked DSL offer it wouldn't surprise me at all if they pulled more shenanigan's!
Why the FCC allowed this merger is beyond me. AT&T/SBC whatever you want to call them is a fairly crappy telco. They've got the worlds worst customer service and I fully expect them to ruin Bellsouth's customer service in due time. And don't even get me started on wireless, whatever the name of the month is!
No, AT&T, the Iphone will not save you in the long run. Fixing your crap wireless network would be a good start!
Can you tell I don't like them? |
