Welp, we shall wait and see. I have been extremely happy with Sunrocket and got a two year deal last November that ran me a total of $188. Free equipment, activation, etc. Guess that if they close up shop, 8 months of service for that price still isn't too bad. |

It is interesting to note that a bit further down the you see the BroadbandReports.com listing from July 5th.

1 edit | I guess Sunrocket flipped US the bird!
I did not renew last month (though THEY automatically renewed me). I called them and was told I'd get my entire $206.00 back. I wound up getting $188.00-don't know why they subtracted 18 dollars and I guess I'll never know why now.
This is too bad....I liked Sunrocket. Fortunately, I never ported any numbers to them. I still have Vonage (and have had them since 2002). I was going to renew Sunrocket the next time they had a special (I just moved and was short of cash the past few months). I guess that's not an option any more.
Buh Bye Sunrocket! *flipping YOU the bird* |

will be stepping in to buy them and keep their 200,000 subscribers phone (and e911) service from being interrupted. The two-year pre-pay pricing model will probably go away though. It's tough to budget and plan spending when a high percentage of your subscribers pay only once every two years. |

| Companies like Vonage and Sunrocket...
Companies like Voange and Sunrocket are getting killed by the cable companies' offering telephone service. Most of them offer unlimited service too. Not to mention that many people don't even HAVE home telephone service any more-they just use their cell phones at home.
The phone companies are even feeling the pinch, which is why they're all trying to offer TV and Internet.
It's a new paradigm, and the Sunrockets of the world just didn't make it through the probation period... |

besides the telcos and cable companies, who's left (that provides VoIP)? Via Talk, Vonage. Any others? |

Sigh.
The better half freaked when I mentioned this thread to her a few minutes ago. I did mention that she could spend a little less time on the phone with her Sister. Oh, If looks could kill. Glad I got a no fee LD company to replace the "How dare you not use our LD penalty fee" from VZ LD. Guess the VOIP market is in for a major shake out.
Bye, Bye, SunRocket. You were great while it lasted. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well. |

1 edit | The problem is Sunrocket spent too much acquiring customers.
Not sure if it is over; however, the problem is they and Vonage both spent too much acquiring customers. Viatalk also does 2-1 sometimes but stopped renewing at 99 for another year during promo and raised it to 150. Plus I am sure spent very little to advertise so the 2-1 was their advertising. Sunrocket does 2-1 and advertises and other large investments. So their costs are way higher. Sunrocket and Vonage dream of competing against the big boys like cable and telcos. A hard thing to do. Smaller players like Packet8, VoicePulse, Viatalk and others I believe have a niche markets planned. Markets that may last even with the cable and telcos of the world. |

Someone take on their mountain of debt, and a customer base that's owed many months of prepaid service ... I think not. I predict that Sunrocket customers will lose their ability to make calls by Sep 1, sadly. |

I just went through their website and clicked "Sign Up." I was able to go through all the way to the point where I had to put in my credit card info to pay. This included choosing a few steps including that I wanted to port or have a Sunrocket Number. |
