Looks like they took a page from Microsoft's Xbox360.

I noticed that too.

As soon as I saw it I thought to myself, Microsoft.

Looks pretty slick, though. I'm supposed to be able to get FiOS TV later this year, if all the planets align, and the moon is in the 5th house of...whatever....

Looks cool...

but is this any different than say...a Vista for TV?
I can use on-demand from comcast; its basic but functional. How is this any better?

Burn a tire, but make sure you buy that carbon offset!

Officially jelous..

I'm officially jealous now.. FIOS is sooooo close to here yet so far.. Months away.

and to the Comcast fanboys: Enjoy your 30mbps nodes shared over hundreds of users!! FIOS = 622mbps (soon to be higher) per 32 person node.. Oh and did I mention, FIBER not copper. There is no stepping up from Fiber, it is the top of the line, copper is the bottom of the line.

whoopdy doo dah...

so they're catching up to what cablevison and time warner and a host of other top tier cable companies have done in their set-top box/guides... instead of looking cloning (their original intended vision) a no-frills satellite-tv set-top it will look more users friendly.

FIOS TV DVR

Does anyone know where I can get the REAL low down on VZs DVR capabilities? I'm a current FIOS subscriber but I can't find out the real specifics about the box. For instance when I look at VZs site, it does not say if you can revwind a recording to the beginning and also, does the FIOS DVR force you to watch something within a given time.

I currently have two TiVo boxes but if the FIOS box has the same functionality, I think I'll ditch my TiVo boxes simply because I don't want a bunch of boxes using up energy unnecessarily and paying for so many different services.

Thanks

Re: FIOS TV DVR

The recording stays as long as there is space available or you mark it as 'do not erase'. You can fast forward and rewind to your hearts content. If you stop in the middle, you can pick back up where you left off. When you reach the end it effectively 'rewinds' it (keep in mind this is a hard disk based system and there is nothing to really rewind).

Re: whats so special

Yeah, the current interface looks pretty crappy. It's not very intuitive and some often used functions take multiple button presses (with the furnished remote). The whole VOD interface is very cumbersome...

Nice but

could they fix the lousy Motorola remote range...I have to point it AT the freakin eye, with little margin for error.

Isn't MS providing the OS for Verizon on this?

I don't know what Cablevision you have, but my Cablevision Cable box interface/features is no where near as nice as this new thing Verizon is launching... and Cablevision has had years to implement new stuff... FIOS hasn't been around that long and they're already overhauling with results.

Re: FIOS TV DVR

Yeah I know I used "rewind" incorrectly but I couldn't think of an appropriate word.

So, if you don't mine my asking, have you used TiVo and and the VZ DVR and if so which do you think is better.

I know everything I need to know about TiVo but before I give it up just to save cash/energy/space, I wanna be sure the VZ DVR can do just as good a job as my TiVo.

different?

Only thing that i see in the 2nd picture that comcast doesn't have is the widget thing, and i am no comcast fanboy by the least.

 Fast Forward Skip Back?

When you fast forward a recorded show and stop...does it skip back a few seconds a la TiVo? Cause if it does --- I am switching to Fios ASAP.

yay!

Yay! More Microsoft crap where it doesn't belong.

I'll stick with Comcast who has none of the MS nonsense. If they go MS, I'll go back to Directv.

For many of us, the MS stuff is a turn off.
