| Packet8 SunRocket Deal Having to give up my SunRocket really hurts. I feel like I lost a member of my family.
When the announcement came out that Packet8 would be the "preferred replacement VoIP service" I immediately called the 800 number listed. I immediately reached a human. I was on hold forever when trying to contact ViaTalk, and Lingo(I never got to speak with any one). The man I spoke to name was William at Packet8 he was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was talking to me from a cornfield somewhere in Iowa. I ordered 2 lines from him to replace both my SunRocket lines. I hope everything will work OK for me on moving my phone numbers.
My 2nd line SunRocket hit my VISA check card on July 3, 2007. I called USBank and they told me I should have a full refund within 10 business days.
I will miss my SunRocket I NEVER had problems with them. It just worked and worked for me. I will miss my SunRocket that is for sure.

| Don't know what your issue is with Packet 8 Lots of hater. Of course if youw er stupid enough to sign up with Sunrocket to begin with......
never had major isues with P8. P8 work better than Charter's phone service even over Charter's own lines. That's a FACT. I've tested it. And Charter charges $40 a month not counting taxes and other fees, which really pushes is closer to $50. I pay $27 TOTAL for P8.

@cbizmedia.com | Re: Don't know what your issue is with Packet 8 I think I may go with Net2Phone as they will honor up to 12 months of our Sunrocket contract. It is also a plus that they are owned by IDT, which I think will survive

| P8 is not reliable I left P8 for a couple of reasons but the major reason was they didn't have a sip server on the east coast which created tremendous lag times, echoing and failed calls. After months of troubleshooting and tech support "on hold" calls, i went to sunrocket and have been a happy camper since. If you sign up for P8, make sure you can test it out first and get your money back if you unhappy with the service. | |

I have loved my SR for nearly 2 years...I am saddened to see this happen. For all abandonee's be comforted, there is a site CompareVoipProviders.org that does independant studies. They have taken all the work out and left you with good information to make your decisions. I hope this is helpful.

| SR Replacements VOIP, from my experience, depends a great deal on your ISP, it's connection to the internet backbone, and other variables to the VOIP SIP server. One person may be happy with P8 or Vonage while others hate it. Personally, I have found Vonage to be the most reliable, problem free, good quality VOIP provider after going through P8, SR, BV, and a few other smaller players. There won't be any "one" solution for SR users. You may have to try several VOIP providers before you find the right one where the connection from your home to them is good. You can try pinging their SIP server (lower numbers means good, higher numbers means bad). As for some comments about P8 being a publicly traded company, that is true. However, if you follow their history from their inception in the 80s, you'll find a lot to be desired. Key design/software teams let go with virtually no notice, lots of very cheap stock options to their execs who sell them and reap tons of cash. Publicly traded does not necessarily mean honest, good folks. | |
