Comments on news posted 2007-07-20 00:19:31: I checked news.google.com to see the media reaction to the (bad) google Q2 financial results and found the story was not aggregated on any of the normal pages. It is clearly the top finance story of the late evening. ..

Meh

Would you post your failures on your wall? I wouldn't. I'm sure they know they can't pretend.

I don't get why anyone is surprised by this...Companies usually tend to avoid helping spread bad news about themselves lol.

I'm surprised. I've seen news.yahoo.com and finance.yahoo.com - which is assembled by editors, not a bot - regularly front page stories of yahoo woe. NY Times publishes its own financial results (good or bad). WSJ reports on the murdoch buyout. I don't think a legitimate news outlet can get away with a blind spot.

I agree. I find it troubling that google news which is seen by many as an impartial news aggregator is not showing any news that shows google in a poor light. Which leads to questions about what other stories they are blocking from their news pages.

news does what news wants, not what news is

Go to www.cnn.com and search for FairTax or Fair Tax, ZERO articles. Even with big campaigns in South Carolina and Iowa they will choose not to cover them.

As far as Google's concerned it's somewhat interesting but we'll see. Google is a big company and like most big companies somethings get dropped and it's highly possible that since they're a public company they may not redundantly post into news what they already post to "investor relations".

Edit: Figured I'd make it easy for people to see my CNN example: »search.cnn.com/search?query=Fair···tl=false

I'm not sure how sinister that is -- I'm in Iowa and haven't noticed any Fair Tax people at all. There doesn't appear to be anything to cover..

Re: Meh

I suspect that the news bot has been programmed to lower rate any google news so that it isn't highlighted. As to why, we could speculate endlessly. I guess the proof would be for someone to do the same kind of checking when Google has some very good news to report. And will the good news stories also not appear on the front pages of google news then as well.

I'd only attribute a sinister motive when it is proved that only bad news is hidden.

The're planning rallies next door to presedential debates. The one in SC had at least 8000 people and wasn't covered by CNN yet it was covered by local (obviously), AP and other networks. I suspect the one in Iowa will be even bigger but I've not been following it that closely.
