Comments on news posted 2007-08-08 19:02:06: FiOS is deservedly seeing good reviews from our users because of the speed and reliability of the connections. Verizon is deservedly seeing praise for being the only telco with the foresight to see that fiber is the future. ..

...

What worries me about that Verizon reps comments about the discounts being applied later is that may mean I won't get the full benefit of them because I'm only going to have my account for a year and then I'm moving out of the house (college student). Does that mean I may only get my discount for 9 or 10 months of the service as opposed to all 12 that I'm entitled to? This is a problem that should have been worked out BEFORE they starting selling the service, not something they get around to whenever it's convenient.

Verizon Billing

I had the $75.00 PC install charge, and it was fixed with one phone call.
I read this article because I now have a mysterious $7.00 charge for long distance, when I signed up for free long distance.
To their credit, Verizon informed me of a cheaper plan when I called about some changed a few months ago.
Overall, I am very satisfied.

Re: Verizon Billing

Did it really get fixed or just added to the next month's bill like mine?

You have to keep looking to find them....

The bundle discounts (stupidly) are not reflective on the individual parts of fios service as they should be. What I'm saying is, the 15.01 credit for Fios Internet is NOT shown on the Fios internet part of the bill, but instead is shown on the local services (voice part) of the bill. Same goes for the FIOS TV bundle discounts. They too are shown under "local service" insted of where the FIOS TV charges are listed...

Old news...for me!

My FIOS TV bill has been consistently screwed up since Jan. Somehow they keep charging me for 6 STBs, when I only have 2. Had to call in every month to get a credit (in arrears) but the same error would appear the next month. Finally, I found a supervisor who admitted there was a bug in their system, that they could not remove the extra STBs from my bill, but that she would monitor the bill every month and correct it. For a few months, she would CALL ME at the end of the billing cycle to let me know the extra STBs were still on the bill, but the prior month's credits would also be there (they were.)

In June she stopped calling and the bill came in again with 6 STBs. I called, demanded a supervisor (none available, but was promised a call back within 48 hrs which never came.) The billing rep said she would correct the number of STBs (she finally did get that right), offered some credits for the inconvenience, and backdated the bundle prices to the beginning of my service (before the bundle was offered.) July's bill finally came in and was correct, including the credits.

It only took 6 months to correct the number of STBs on my account.

Ernestine (Lily Tomlin) got it right: "We don't care. We don't have to. We're the Phone Company."

We'll see

According to Verizon's Jim Smith, the company's current billing system involves some "complex billing system interactions" that require activations to sync up before bundled discounts are applied. "What matters, though, is that the discount always runs for the full period promised, either 12 or 24 months, even if it does not start in month one of the service" he says.

In other words, those of you not yet seeing bundle discounts will see them in time, and for the full length of the contract you signed.

What's Verizon doing about it? "Software upgrades are being installed mid-August to remedy this and to assure that for new FiOS bundle customers, discounts are immediate and actually cover the promised period from service activation forward with no delays," he tells us.
I beleive it when I see it. My first billing didn't have the bundled Movie Package+HBO for $20/month. When I called in to get the situation fixed, I was happily given the appropriate credit for 6 months, but then was told after that I had to pay the regular price as they couldn't add a package that was no longer being promoted.
