| Too bad they won't leverage Ion.
Back around 2000-2002... Can't remember the actual year, but that's the timeframe, Sprint had their Sprint Ion service. That would have AMPLE bandwidth for what they wish to do if they wanted IPTV service.
Too bad they probably laid off all of their expertise in the product when they shipped 90% of their IT off-shore. -- Note : The statements made by myself are my own and not the opinions of my employer or of my coworkers. 15.81 GHz Crunching Power | My Random Thoughts... Yes, I have thoughts. |

| ION was a Sprint Long Distance venture. Sprint Long Distance is part of Sprint-Nextel not Embarq (although the local division which became Embarq did purchase much of the equipment from the long distance division).
Embarq tech support (and customer service) is based mainly in America. There are a few contract centers out of country (Canada for instance - but is that really a different country - isn't just like Alaska?)
As Embarq is an ILEC not a CLEC, I would not hold my breath waiting for the rebirth of ION. If it came it would come from Sprint-Nextel who got out of the local telephone business. -- If it is not recorded, it simply does not exist. |

It's been known that they have been upgrading DSLAMs with ADSL2+ cards for a while now. My guess is that this is going to be their mode of transport for now, but only time will tell. |

Canada is a different country, with its own government (a constitutional monarchy, with a Queen and Parliament). Alaska is a state of the United States, and not part of Canada. |

I don't think we have met before. I am facetious to a fault and often forget to use emoticons to let people know I am joking.
I realize that Canada is a different country, eh? -- If it is not recorded, it simply does not exist. |

@embarqhsd.net | reply to Dezbend Umm Embarq didn't purchase any equipment from the LD division. What was Sprint Local to start with became Embarq and what was Sprint LD and Sprint PCS became Sprint/Nextel. |

From what I saw, its $24.00 for voicemail, local service and caller id.
Not a bad price.
Where do you get $25 from?
$19.95 for a basic dial tone.

When ION was shut down (well before the merger or subsequent spin-off) Sprint Local purchased many of the ION DSLAMs from Sprint Long Distance to increase DSL penetration in local territory.
The equipment sale I referenced was years before the separation. -- If it is not recorded, it simply does not exist. |

Wrong ION DSLAM's, MGX8850's and Passport 6400's were all detroyed as part of the write off due to legality reason's. This equipment was brought to Lenexa, KS to a warehouse and crushed. The ION footprint was much different then the local footprint as we re-sold pairs from the local bell. |

That's what I understand from the guys at the local CO. They expect ADSL2+ equipment to be at least partially installed.
I have been told I have a real great shot at being a lab rat for them.
I sure hope I get a smooth-turning wheel and they clean my cage often. |

I have heard some very interesting things about these rimsemi chipsets from the guys around here. It is my understanding, from both what I have heard and what I have read that this has great promise, especially in the more sparsely populated service areas.
I will have to let my investment counselor friend know more about rimsemi. I have already given him a heads-up. |
