$150 HD-DVD Kickback = Blu-Ray

This is enough of a reason for me to buy a Blu-Ray player. I was close to buying a cheap HD-DVD but this story stinks and makes me think that fair market forces are not at work here. I'm no longer enticed by the cheap price of HD-DVD players. I wonder where we would be if a few years ago Circuit City paid big dollars to the studios over the "DiVX/DVD War."

Re: $150 HD-DVD Kickback = Blu-Ray

The sole fact that Blu Ray was MPEG 2 for about a year means it was technologically inferior. HD DVD was VC1 /h264 from the beginning on every title. It was only until recently that blu ray producers got smart and started using VC1 transfers like HD DVD, because blu ray was getting poorly reviewed. Matter of fact if you look at the reviews many many movies are still getting poor quality reviews.

Most current transfers look the same. From the looks of retail sales many blu ray movies are more expensive than the hd dvd counterparts by as much as $5 in some cases. Coupled with players that are what $350 $400 at their cheapest. If sony wants to stay in the game they need to release cheap players. The day i see a $99 blu ray player is the day I will consider one.
