Maybe...

Representative Howard L. Berman (D-Los Angeles) is pushing for a new law that will require ISPs to send a warning letter to their users should they access pirated content.

....Ok, but only if you pass a law that requires all offices to send a letter to the public whenever someone in political office receives a bribe or payoff from any group. Seems fair, no? If you're gonna spy on us for 'illegal' activities, then we should spy on you for illegal activities.

Not just pirates. Anybody who doesn't like their privacy and rights diminished by the day because of some corrupt politician.

Who needs the speed?

Throttling will just make people realize they don't need the speed. If all we are going to use the internet for is:

1. Web browsing (slow with all the ads but I use a hosts.zip file to block most of them)

2. Read your web mail (mostly SPAM anyway)

3. Watch some video from YouTube or the Associated Press.

4. Newsgroups? Full of advertising these days.

Might as well go back to 1500/768 if this is all we're left with. Why buy fios or 8,000/768 Comcast if the speed limit is 15mph?

le sigh

@comcast.net

sick and tired

This stuff is getting ridiculous.

It actually encouraged me to write my representatives and, among other things, asked him to remind his peers that they represent people, not business.

Who cares ...

Berman can go back under his rock once the ISPs kick in - not to mention once the EFF start knocking down his door with e-mail bombardment the likes of whom only the worlds worst spammers have seen in retaliation for all that viagra spam.

I believe the ISPs will be the main complaint against this law, hell TWC might even complain since it's quite a lot of infrastructure that would need to be rolled out ... they already have too much shit going on as it is ... heaven knows we don't need this added to the traffic. What if it goes berserk and I get 3k e-mails a day over this? One for each packet anyone? I highly doubt it will scare me, or most other people who use bit-torrent/P2P.

Piracy is not that bad....

i mean the #1 movies on the pirate charts also seem to be the ones that take in over a billion in world wide ticket sales.

take the LOTR movies, they ranked very high on the piracy charts and yet each one of them made well of a billion before DVD sales where counted.

BullCrap!

Berman - isn't there some guy named Berman who works for Paramount? Want to bet that they are related?

I guess that the next step taken by the government will be requiring auto makers to have 'filters' on vehicles. I can see it now....I'll get a ticket in the mail, go to court, and the judge will say "Your Dodge Dakota reported that you were driving at 41 MPH in a 40 zone, you were hauling an unsecured load, and you parked 1/2" too far away from the curb..."

Bad for business..

AT&T and others will find that anti-piracy measures/filtering will be bad for business, as there will be by far, much much fewer demand for it's broadband product. Pay AT&T $10-60 a month to get harassed by your ISP, yeah... where do I sign up?

Connections with someone looking over your shoulder is more attuned to Russia than USA. Someone forgot to mention this to those who take copyright industry money.
