AT&T picks the most profitable neighborhoods for deployment Nice statement. But there is no proof offered or available that this is the case. And constant repetition doesn't make it true. -- -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page |

a Sak's 5th avenue in the hood? Oh that's right, they must be cherry picking. God forbid a company sell a service where their client base would actually be able to pay for it. |

Umm, since its in its infancy and just starting to roll out to major markets, yes- quite happy.
I hardly consider 5 thousand installs a week shabby since they've only been heavily marketing the service for 2 quarters, contrary to the FUD spreaders here who already declare the service "dead". |

Even if it is/was true, god forbid a company trying to obtain a ROI for initial buildouts... I don't see any laws being broken. Its called business. |

I think it is a mistake to try to refute this claim. Refuting it makes it sound like cherry-picking is a bad thing, which it isn't.

I know, the whole cherry picking argument is quite old already. Its simply a smart business choice. To make money you need money. |

Shame on them for not picking the unprofitable neighborhoods for deployment! |

Take 2 areas, one has millionaires and has 200 residences, the other is a middle class area same size but has 3000. Which area is going to be "most profitable" for at&t? It's not the "rich" area. |

| Hey if their happy then it must be a good thing for them!
I think if their customer base increasing and they are happy with passing 100,000. Then they are on a good start. I know I'll be happy when the service is turned on in my area. The boxes have been sitting for a year. So I hope we will see U-verse service soon. I have been with 1.5Mbps for awhile which has been...ok. But the idea of 6Mbps with 1Mbps upload is sounding great! The best part will be the upload speed and tv service! |

if cherry picking was a GOOD thing, everyone outside of dense cities would have no phone service. so maybe you should qualify your statements...unless you are one of those "country folk should move to da city if 'n deys wants telephony!" |

It seems that the word is out that you can dump the IPTV portion and keep internet.
I'm sure AT&T is not giving us these statistics. |

You must be in a good service area if you can say that... I had horrible service from Comcrapsticks. The HD signal was very poor. It would constantly freeze up and/or the audio would not be in sync and sometimes wouldn't play for half the program. The DVR they provided me would lock up all the time to the point that I'd have to unplug the box to get it to respond again... Oh, and during the last six months that I was with them they raised my rate by over $20 a month... I'm quite happy to be rid of them, and can't wait for U-verse to go live in my area. For now tho, I'm extremely happy with my AT&T DSL and AT&T Homezone w/ Dish Network. I get great inexpensive RELIABLE dsl and a TV service that has more HD than ANY provider (for now anyway) out there. |
