Here, the apple users see apple as a choice while forgetting that apple is a one trick pony.
I don't bash apple.. they do good at some of the things they do and short fall on others. Of the MP3 players, I tend to like the iPod but I do not like the fact that the batter is not user replaceable.

I shouldn't and I won't. And I own 3 Apple computers (dumped two recently) and I'm typing this message on one now.
The point isn't the computers or the company, so much, it's the stockholders and fanboys who egg on others to be early adopters and then call them all "buttmonkeys" after an unprecedented 10 week price drop on a product that Apple claims, as do you, is seeing miraculous sales.

Normally they don't just lop $200 off the purchase price of anything. You buy an Apple product and the price is the same for a year or two. Obviously the new product selling at $xxx.xx is not the same as yours, but it carries the same moniker and cost the same price. Second we have the Cellular phone market. Yes, today that phone is $300, but it will normally stay at $300 for 6 months to a year before the monthly markdown. 10 weeks for a hot selling phone is not the normal markdown period. These folks got burnt by a product realignment. Third, Apple didn't decide the day before to do the markdown, they had to know it some time out. What I think they didn't count on was the consumer backlash, which really surprises me. I know had I bought that silly thing I would have been irate, but then I became angry when T-Mobile started giving away my cell phone the day after I paid $30.00 for it. So, really, I think it is time to give these folks a break. -- Retaking our country one election at a time.

Welcome to the world of BLEEDING EDGE Cell phones. Its typical. Different products have different lifecycles.
Laptops, TVs, HDTVs, Plasmas, LCDs, Cell Phones and everything that has a LUXURY element to it is always higher priced at entry into market. People pay the premium to have the FIRST ones.. The ego or the pleasure kick of getting it before anyone.
Prices then go down... and pretty much never come up. Why? Because the next BIG thing is ALWAYS coming out.
There are people that go ahead and buy at a premium to have it NOW.. or people who wait for the 4th July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & Day After Christmas sales.
Why do so many good pieces of clothing become CHEAP 1-day after Christmas? 1 day? Because, that is how it goes - You get to wear the latest fashion on Christmas / New Years.. or afterwards. You have that CHOICE.
|
| | | | | | | | | | BTW - Looks like you're the only FOOL who did not FORSEE that the prices will fall.
Every guy I know who just graduated from college & a lot of people still in undergrad want to get an iPhone. The smarter ones waited for the following reasons: 1. Let the bugs of the first release pan out 2. iPod prices fall every couple of months so will the iPhone prices
Now I'd say that is coming from 18-20 year olds. I'd think you were smarter than that when watching PRICING for tech gadgets fall.

What do you get for the $200? The EGO KICK of having an iPhone before it becomes TOO COMMON.
As always every new Nokia phone would command a premium. A lot of people get it to SHOW OFF.. A lot of people know that the prices will drop in 8-10 weeks and they do not need the EGO KICK of saying "I got it way before most of you commoners did".

| | Why would Apple do this? and why it wouldn't
Apple loves to control their products customer experience from beginning to end. With PCs they do the hardware, software, & service functions. Same with the iPod where the software, hardware, and content are all controlled by Apple. That they MIGHT want to control the iPhone experience all the way thru the provision of voice and data access is not out of the realm of possibility.
But they would be stepping in to an area where their expertise is minimal. And voice and data access customers are notoriously a demanding and generally dissatisfied group - very unlike the typical Apple fanboys. Apple might be worried that stepping in to an area where they could get a huge black eye might tarnish their image and spillover in to their other product lines.
Given the limited experience that Apple has accumulated so far in this area, I doubt they will make such a big commitment this soon. I doubt they would want to take the risk. I think they would rather Google take such a risk and then Apple would partner with them just about the time their AT&T commitment would be expiring. -- -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page
