That only affects cable subscribers.

Though the truth is no one needs a new digital TV ever. As long as you have a set-top box or a converter, your TV will be fine.

Glad to hear that the cable companies can still give me analog cable when the cable goes out.

Re: That has been over ruled, by FCC

but all cable tv subscribers have to ask your selves some questing & some investigation must be done,.
for instance,
1,Did the cable company themselves, push for these changes?
WHY/ (a) to justify buying newesr equipment in turn to raise their rates.
(b) To justify have customers HAVE TO "'RENT" or buy a converter to go onto the ""box"

and as mentioned,""Though the truth is no one needs a new digital TV ever. As long as you have a set-top box or a converter,?

but the bad thing is YOU NEVER OWN the equipment and yes I have tried cable tv, (right along side satellite tv,(2006)for a trial & after a week, called cable T.W. to come get their equipment.

Re: That has been over ruled, by FCC

Thanks for your concern for the cable people, but a lot of other people really don't care what the cable owners do. You keep posting you have a satellite dish, so you should not have to worry about the cable company either. The only worry you should have is when rain storms knock out your dish. It happens sometime. Other than that, dish is usually very good.

Hope you have a nice night jazzy.

Jazzy/Toby, you are wrong about owning the equipment.
The FCC has mandated that any 3rd party can developed and produce cable boxes/DVRs.
These devices will be able to be purchased at your local electronic store. And it will be yours to keep if you move into another system.

Forget 2009, How About The Tuner Situation Today

Yada, Yada, Yada... All these recording devices made after mumbo jumbo date are supposed to include an atsc tuner for the transition. However, the exception is not bundling any tuner. So today, almost all of the recorders bundle neither ntsc or atsc tuners. Hey idiots who wrote the regulation: We are worse of with NO tuner than a machine with a NTSC tuner.

what about when camping?

I agree that we're in the digital age WHEN AT HOME, but when camping I like to bring a small 5" TV just to check the news once in a while. Won't be able to do that unless the campgrounds start offering Digital hookups to pup tents! LOL We're usually in the White Mtns. and I haven't found an electric outlet on any of the trees yet! We bring the portable TV in the car when traveling so I guess I'll just have to break down and buy that new Land Rover with GPS!

question

Sorry if this is stupid to most here, but I really do not know much about tv equipment and what not. I have Dish Network on regular tv- I wish I could afford a high def tv, but can not right now- and then to pay extra for HD channels is not an option either

Anyway, will I also have to purchase this converter box?
