Comments on news posted 2007-09-12 10:17:13: [att=1214365,r]The renaming of Cingular to AT&T was supposed to usher in the advent of the company's "three screen" initiative -- or the idea that you could get AT&T services via TV, computer, and mobile phone. ..

So What?

I still refer to the company as Cingular, and people know what I'm talking about.

Where I currently live the phone company used to be SBC, and some people still call it that.

Anyway, I don't much care about what a company is called, provided the service is good. Although I also like consistency. Consistency is good for companies as well.

Tom: "I used XYZ, Inc. product, and it's great!"
Dick: "Really? It should work well for me too!"
Harry: "I can vouch for Tom, it's great."
Later...
Dick: "I'm using it now, it's great!"

Is better than:

Tom: "I used XYZ, Inc. product, and it's great!"
Dick: "Really? It should work well for me too!"
Harry: "I can vouch for Tom, it's great."
Later...
Dick: "Did XYZ, Inc. disappear? I can't find the product now."

AT&T has issues

Seems like AT&T is having issues marketing there products. It seems like people are getting confused and assumed since the Cingular name went away that there is no Cingular. Not concluding that Cingular was in fact AT&T. They should of just left the Cingular name as is since people did associate Cingular with cell phone service.

Re: AT&T has issues

AT&T is simply too big now to have an identity, and hence the crisis. Orange and "Jack" might be great for consumers (teenagers and their families) they are not exactly business-like.

I expect the company to be split in the next 18 months to "boost shareholder value". We've all seen the movie...

Oh, and if was making decisions for Vonage, I'd be hiring a big shot legal firm to sue the hell out of AT&T right now.

I can see it too. I sure hope not, for their sake. I don't think people could handle another change; even if it is just the "name" that is changing. Sheesh, they are going to have to pick something and stick with it. Enough already. The outfit is huge, everyone knows what at&t does. The monies could be spent in more beneficial ways and be less confusing to the customer. When is a "firm" going to report that?

Ma Bell back from the dead

Cingular, AT&T or SBC... whatever they want to call themselves this week, its just sad that the government broke up AT&T back in 1984, only to allow them to become a near monopoly again. Cingular is the New AT&T that is the old Ma Bell.

Things that make you go Humm....

Less money spent on marketing and more on infrastructure would be good.

yeah, just think of what their system would be like if they invested the 40 million or so on changing their into building new sites...they are so poor, they can't afford capital letters.

It took them this long?

They are just now figuring out that people liked the Cingular brand better? Man, everyone I've talked to about it has said that. Maybe at&t exec's should get out more.

Re: It took them this long?

I think everyone is thinking of DoCoMo and how people are identified in Japan (in part) on the cell phone company they do business with. I would buy a contact with "Edsel Mobility" if they offered the best coverage/rate combination.

I think people know that when an old brand name comes back to life, the new owners are not the old If some some airline bought the old "Pan Am" or "TWA" brands, I don't think anyone would believe that this was the old Pan Am or TWA.

AT&T gave me great service!

I had AT&T Wireless service before it became Cingular. Big mistake to rename their brand to CINGULAR. But Cingular is still good, since they are using AT&T towers making them the best wireless provider. Now SBC bought AT&T and they kept the name AT&T so now they changed their name back to AT&T. I'm happy that they went back to the original brand. A brand that we can trust over 125 years of service.

AT&T only gave me one drop call in a month and I was happy that my service was over 100 percent. Well Verizon I had 30 or more dropped calls. T-Mobile, recently, I'm getting 20 or more a month. Unacceptable! Thank you AT&T for providing us great coverage in my area. I told my friend to switch to your service in RI and he's getting more coverage than T-Mobile and he's glad he made the switch! Thanks!

PS. Try not to re-brand your name again. Keep the name AT&T. BTW .... the word phase "Your World. Delivered." That was used under AT&T Wireless back in 1999 before they changed it to " AT&T... how many bars do you have?" ... just letting you know..
