Comments on news posted 2007-09-18 12:07:57: [att=1216703,r]A major gripe with the first generation iPhone is that it doesn't support broadband connectivity (excluding Wi-Fi), instead leaving users stuck with AT&T's clunky EDGE network -- which pumps out 200kbps on a good day if the planets are.. ..

I know that a lot of people use their phone as a laptop

But this is getting a bit high.

All I want is the ability to call anywhere anytime for about 10-50 minutes a month.

D'oh!

First early iPhone adopters get news that their phone dropped a whopping $200 in price within months of purchase. With this news their iPhones have now become both outdated and overpriced. Ouch!

I am glad to hear they're coming out with a 3g model though. That will be a killer combination.

How is Apple going to improve battery life for 3G ?

Jobs:
There is no 3G iPhone as yet because, as Jobs said at the launch, the "The trade off with 3G [in battery life] is too bad right now."
And between now and 1Q 2008, what is going to change regarding battery capacity? No new battery tech is available. Will the 3G radio chips change enough between now and then to reduce power draw? Or will Apple make a bigger, thicker iPhone to handle a bigger battery for 3G use?

That timeline doesnt make sense.....

Who would buy a "euro" iPhone in early November knowing that within as little as two months the 3G version would be available?? Dont get me wrong, I am sure people will line up to buy this but the timing is terrible. Most 1st generation products are released at least 12 months (if not 18+ months) before their successor comes out so that the company can make enough profit. Releasing a newer, better, faster version a short time afterwards is terrible planning on behalf of the providers. If nothing else, they should simply have waited the few weeks (with no release) and then dropped a 3G iPhone on everyone. THAT would have created some serious demand, and no cannibalization of their own product line either.....

Re: How is Apple going to improve battery life for 3G ?

I have a Samsung blackjack with the "extended" battery.

I know some people turn off 3G to enhance their battery life, but on my phone, 3G seems to make very little difference. With light usage it lasts around 3 days between charges, in Edge or 3G mode (and yes 3G is enabled here).

£269 ($373)???

Shouldn't that either be €269 or $542?

Re: That timeline doesnt make sense.....

Its bad enough that stateside, Apple released the iphone then dropped by the price by $200 on the 8 gig model within 2 months but now they are going to release a 3G phone a few months after that?

I accept all responsibility but I'm never going to be an earlier adopter of apple products again. And considering this was my first major apple purchase, I don't think I will be as excited to buy anything else from them in the future.

Re: D'oh!

The price you pay for saying "Look what I got" not trying to be mean but that is what most people bought it for that is why I generally wait about a year to ge the bugs worked out and the price to be lowered.

Remember the "Newton"?

All the Iphone "hype" just makes me more and more excited about the future -- as all this annoying "buzz" fades into the ambient, the Iphone will take a seat right next to it's long-forgotten cousin, Newton!

Being on the bleeding edge means you get cut

That's the thing... Having to be first, to be "Cool" to be on the "Bleeding Edge" of technology means that you get cut.

Quickly, features, stability, pricing improves for the people who waited patiently. The early adopters are like the Guinea Pigs and Beta Testers, and they end up having to "re-upgrade" or pay more.

WOW! And the fanboi's talk **** about M$?!?!

Makes me laugh when you see all the trash talk about Microsoft in the Aplle forums about the M$ greed and here is Apple topping all that Billy Gates has ever done. This even beats out the Windows ME ripoff.

Get ready for the whining....

I am just waiting for the first Apple cultist to start complaining that they will release a 3G model. So how much do you think they are going to demand from Apple this time around?

The Apple devotees will really start to get a shock now that Apple is in the phone business. It's a whole new world....

I can see the ads now.

Old iTouch not cutting it? Friends not impressed anymore? Feel left out of the iTouch sewing circle?

No need to whine or soil yourself over feeling ripped off because for a short time only, you the followers of iApple can trade up. YES TRADE UP I SAID!

Give us your tired 3 month old phone, the rebate, plus $200 and you will receive not only the latest greatest iPhone but also receive a picture of Steve iJobs signed by his barber.

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Edit* Humor disclaimer not an actual iApple Ad.

I have to say I liked the iPhone, but didn't want to spend the money yet. Now with the price drop I was thinking ok, I will get one now. Now I would rather wait to get a 3G version when it comes out. I wonder what is after that?

Then I thought ok, I will get an iTouch since it seemed just like the phone but sans the phone capabilities. Now it seems that there is a BIG difference in quality, so there goes that theory.

I was suprised when Apple gave the fanboys $100 in credit for their whining. I wonder what they will want now, Jobs's first born?

Re: D'oh!

Yea, I still remember when a moto razr was like $500 with a contract, and how buggy as hell it was.

Nowadays you can get a very bug-fixed one free with a contract, or an unlocked one from motorola for about $210 with an accompanying bluetooth headset.
