This is exactly why I own GOOGLE stock....
You lack of vision is shared with that of AT&T: Failure to have anticipated the ad-revenue stream lost from slower traditional models.
Google's search engine has more information than phone books ever did. AT&T (as well as US West, Former BellAtlantic now Verizon...) took the wrong approach to the internet (controlling the lines, they never knew what hit them).
So now, I'm happy with Google and its +$400/share...vs $23 for ATT (I doubt your dividends will compare to GOOG $568/shr) |

What does Microsoft have to gain by pushing against net neutrality in an effort to shaft Google? Wouldn't a lot of their business also be adversely impacted if they had to pay more additional fees to get their product and/or updates to customers?
I understand why the telcos are in this lobbying/astroturfing schtik, but MS? Kinda looks like you're shooting yourself in the foot. |

You do realize that stock price alone is pretty much irrelevent. What's important is growth and dividends. For the price of AT&T a person could buy a certain amount of google stock and in relation to that the difference between dividend comes into play.
FWIW... people get ticked about AT&T helping the gov't collect data meanwhile Google dumped it's search queries out into the open and regularly help the Chinese gov't censor dissidents. |

This is exactly why stock prices are holding down any productive thinking when it comes to a national broadband policy. Companies are so worried about the bottom line at any given moment that they won't do anything to benefit the collective masses. Look at Verizon...a broadband vision through fiber that pisses off stockholders because of the price it costs to upgrade their network. Now Look at ATT, shoveling crap on 100 year old copper. The only reason they got into the tv business is because of the digital conversion and they have lobbiests in place. But hey, their stock price is holding....
So when you see a story about 100mbps service in Korea or wherever, know you won't see it anytime soon because people are worried about the current stock price!

Dvorak penned a column, bringing to light something I had been noticing lately. It was a problem for me as recently as tonight.

Google's search algorithms are sucking up poison from corrupted servers and feeding it to us in the form of bizarrely corrupted search results. Most of the servers are from China, but when I limit my search results to english results I'll still pick up a few from East European TLD's.
It's annoying, but I haven't figured out what to make of it.

Put aside the hate for Microsoft. Do you know what this means, Google going to bed with DoubleClick.
DoubleClick has been on my spam, no cookie, firewall block list for years. And now google is going to force doubleclicks crap on me. Bye Google Toolbar. MSDN and Yahoo have used DoubleClick's competitors cross browser cookies for years. And now Google is going to put their foot in the water.
Haven't done this in a while, but try this. Do a spyware scan and clean everything. Then go to MSDN. Now do a spyware scan and see what detects. Clean everything. Now go to Yahoo. Now do a spyware scan and see what detects. It's probably still lots of spyware cross browser cookies.
So now Google gets marked of the list of safe sites to use.

Don't we already pay a ton of money in taxes on our phone bill for "universal service?" Why is phone service one of the most heavily taxed things you can purchase in this country?
I say we are already paying for fiber deployment, and the money is getting pissed away like only Washington bureaucrats can piss away money.
