| screw TWC Screw them! Utilizing bandwidth in much a similar way as you do electricity is a fact of life. That's NO excuse for not increasing the upstream. What they are more concerned with is starting a bandwidth war before they can place orders for docsis 3.0 equipment. That would force TWC to invest in upgrades & knock profits down (boo hoo!) TWC has a rather anti-consumer attitude when it comes to bandwidth. Comcast is the same way.. not only are they CHEAP in NOT giving the consumer what they want, but think they can charge the highest prices in their industries. All at the same time while hocking $90-99 triple play to keep customers from switching to the competition.. a paradox they will have to fix sooner or later.
Let's not forget we're talking about NYC, not some backwater broadband black hole. They take on all these consumer fleecing issues on CNN, yet when it comes to their own subscribers.. tough luck! HYPOCRITES!

| What do they actually deliver? It doesn't really matter what they sell. They can claim 10/512 all they want, but they do not seem to feel obligated to actually deliver it!
They have not been delivering anything like the claimed speeds in the New York City area for months.
Half of "10 Megs down" is still only 5 Megs. -- regards,Lou

| Re: *ONE STATEMENT PLEASE* what cheeba you been smokin? RCN cable infrastructure covers a solid portion of the entire city. From the west at least a few miles beyond the Dan Ryan, to the hood-rich south, and the hootie-tootie north, and probably even east, right into the lake of michigan with the other sewage, dead bodies, chemicals, and of course....my leaking lizard. | |

| | BS Apparently many aren't aware of the fact that RoadRunner uses bandwidth shaping, meaning they slow your connection down if you download too much. So these speed are nothing but a marketing gimmick. | |

"download too much"
Ummm... its not possible to use more than 100%.

Maybe it's only good for not being overspent..
Got to admit that the prices are much lower than Comcast"
RCN coverage in Chicago is a down right joke. Comcast pretty much pwns Chicago. Which is sad because RCN could actually bring faster speeds to Comcast users in the greater Chicago area. -- "I am the worst president in US history, I'm either stupid or dumb most of the time, but people still believe me." | Re: RCN WHOH WHOH just saw this post, I know it's old, but I never have alot of time to review old posts. Saw this and HAD to respond. I DO NOT work for RCN...however, I do believe they are FAR superior to Comcast in terms of: 1.) Pricing 2.) Internet Speeds Pkgs (offering the 20/2 pkg) 3.) Deployment and auditing of new and existing cable lines (RG-6 and thicker guage) to eliminate as much noise on the copper coax as possible
You do have a slight point, while their coverage isn't as "widespread" as Comcast, RCN tends to focus on dense industrial, commercial and residential areas...especially in Chicago (more bang for their buck). I know my parents in the Southwest Suburbs cannot get RCN, because, well....their infrastructure doesn't exist in the suburbs and many edges of the actual City of Chicago. Your right, they could bring a lot more to users in the greater Chicago area, but all of that fiber, and especially copper...the deployment of it, and getting permits to wire every *little* town across greater Chicago is a nightmare for them in itself...and a HUGE investment risk they aren't willing to take.

| | Plus unannounced packet shaping/limiting? We just moved to Brooklyn, immediately scarfed up the 20/1 package but now find we can't get Vonage working for the life of us (wall->cablemodem->router->VT-- a configuration that has worked under 3 other ISPs, both dynamic and static). Is Time Warner throwing in some quiet shaping/limiting (like, limiting to zero) into this "sweet" deal? -- B | |
