Guilty as charged!

Vonage admits guilt by paying Sprint.

Turn out the lights the party is over.

I'm not sure if it's a total dmission of guilt, or so much that the cheaper alternative - in lieu of paying even more lawyer fees for months and months - would be to settle with Sprint, and at the same time, pay $ for the right to use Sprint's patents going forward. To me, that's a sound business decision. At the same time, I will not try to understand patent law or VoIP technology at the patent-level, so I won't comment on the amount of Vonage's wrong-doing.

I've loved Vonage from about day 5 with their service, and I have no plans to drop them unless the dial-tone stops. Even if that occurs, I don't believe Vonage will go the route of Sunrocket.

I noticed Sprint got the bulk of their money up front. A smart move for them. Vonage can't keep their fight going forever, especially with the weak position of their stock.

I don't believe Vonage will go the route of Sunrocket either, but I do see them being gobbled up by another company.

So, using your logic, if RIM paid off NTP they admitted guilt in willfully infringing on NTP's amazing innovation of wirelessly transmitting email huh??

And ahh yes, you even have the obligatory "party is over, vonage is dead,....etc" post. I have seen these posts on this forum each time a story about Vonage pops up. You may have done better by just simply posting "I'm First!!! Woo Hoo!!"

Should just wait

I mean come on people Vonage is still up and running. So what if the Cable companies are being greedy, and Wireless is getting scared that they are going to lose the big profit margins. The fat woman hasn't sung yet. This whole thing is about money.
If I can't get it out of my customers I will go and sue company, person, or thing that I see on the horizon.

Cable company sues bell company
Drug company sues Generic
Verizon sueing Vonage
Customer sues over Drive-thru service

These are all outragous suits that flood our judicial systems everyday, and these people are sueing for outragous amounts 20-100 million dollars at a time. Everybody just wants to get rich quick it seems.

Me too. I wonder if Sprint will just grab them up eventually.

Are Cable VOIP Operators really a threat?

I ask because I have Vonage and Cox VOIP. With vonage I pay under $20/mo for 500 minutes (that's all I need) and every feature I could imagine.

With Cox VOIP, it's about $18/mo for just a dial tone and no features and no calling plan/minutes. It would be about another $15/mo for the features and I'd still be paying $.07/min for local calls. The only reason I have the cox line is because it was a free offer for 6 months.

Finally, I also have a fax line through Vonage for a few bucks more per month, cox wanted another small fortune for a second line.

I don't see how it's competition.

Re: Guilty as charged!

It's a patent dispute -- the question is what patents Verizon holds vs. what patents Sprint holds...

I wish we had a requirement for a very basic law class in American school curriculums.

Re: Are Cable VOIP Operators really a threat?

Exactly - the cable companies want to have their cake and eat it. At the moment they are pricing their product just slightly below that of traditional telcos so that they get customers but also make as much money as possible. I don't see them becoming a major threat to the independent VOIP providers unless they start cutting their costs significantly. At that point, who cares - just go with the cable company if they are as cheap as the independent.

Sprint, or Verizon.

Since the suit against Verizon is still open. If Vonage ultimately loses in Court, Verizon could request a controlling interest in the stock as payment.

Then, "It's over Johnny"

Using your logic, then either Sprint needs to sue Verizon or Verizon needs to sue Sprint.

Why, were they the same patent? How can two companies both hold the same patent?

Vonage stole millions in profit from Verizon and Sprint, they deserve to go out of business!

I think DSLreports is full of sympathetic line men who have Verizon and Sprint on their paychecks

DSLreports is full of people that live in their mother's basement and want a free lunch.
