AOL does not own eBay. No way, no how.
The majority shareholder is Pierre Omidyar.
Google it. Its pretty easy.

By your screwed up logic - if any of my mutual funds own AOL stock then the mutual fund 'owns' AOL and are responsible for AOL's problems AND AOL would be responsible for the fund not doing well (of course - my mutual funds are doing fine and yea - they do own AOL stock).

|
| | | | | Re: Alternatives to Skype? Yup try Onesuite, a lot cheaper and better than Skype with more features too like it doubles as a calling card theres also fax to email feature. | |
|
| | | If you subscribe to Skype Pro ($3 a month) you can get a Skype To Go number that will cut that cost on International calls down considerably. It's basically a ring-back service. | |
|
| | | Yahoo! Voice
»voice.yahoo.com/
Their rates are cheaper than Skype across the board.
|
| | | | Re: Alternatives to Skype? Yahoo Voice is much cheaper. However I think it cost me more in the long run as I don't do a lot of calling. I am not sure but I think it dumps your credits you have paid for after a certain time? Maybe 3 months? Skype doesn't seem to do that.
So when I checked my Yahoo account my balance had been wiped, I guess as I had not used it in awhile.
|
| | | MagicJack is a much better alternative to Skype for an initial cost of $39.00 which covers the purchase of the USB device and first year of service, after that an additional year is $20.00. Unlimited calling in US and voicemail and inbound number included.
I tried out Skype and they were terrible. I hesitantly tried out MagicJack and while they are still in a BETA phase, they beat Shype hands down.
|
| | | try gizmo project, www.gizmoproject.com they're a SIP-based system much like skype, using it is free and you can buy call credit.
Alternatively you could use really any VoIP provider and a computer softphone, if you're willing to jump thru some hoops to set it up. use a softphone like x-lite or SJphone, and a provider like broadvoice.com or viatalk.com might work well...

When they originally purchased Skype I really thought that we could be looking at the start of dot-com bust part 2. It's a shame that large organizations still haven't learnt restraint when it comes to deals like this.

| eBay = Garbage eBay is garbage period, there against guns, customer service sucks cause you have to go through e-mail or the chat thingy, AND why in hell do i have to sign up for paypal to use a credit card? I don't need them to freeze my account either. COMPLETE GARBAGE. | |
|
| | Skype I expected eBay to integrate SKYPE into their auctions right away. There were hints. There is a place to put your SKYPE ID in the eBay profile section.
But they never have put it in the auctions.
I wouldn't mind enabling my customers, especially the International ones, to be able to skype us to ask questions about our auction items.
I don't understand the issue! Hell, my little YAHOO MESSENGER smiley shows up all over if I am online.
With the BAZZILIONS of eBayers, they could get more people to sign up just by integrating it. DUMB DUMB DUMB.

"Duh..." is kind of the way I see this one. Skype is all about making things cheaper for consumers, hell, even free or as close to it as possible. That hardly sounds like a plan to make a massive growth in revenue....
