I might have to do this. You people who say you don't have a right to do this aren't the people that live with dial up or EVDO that disconnects every 40 seconds. However she didn't have the right to do this. I can understand her frustration.

The end result....

She was fined $345. If I'd have known it was so cheap, I'd have vented my frustration a long time ago on a few places I believe are equally as deserving.

How is she a vigilante

Please explain to me how this lady is a vigilante? She didnt "take the LAW into her own hands." There is no law stating that any level of customer service has to be given. Yes, she had a bad experience. Did it justify going into the office of the company involved and destroying their property? Absolutely not. The folks in that office did not deserve to be terrorized like that. The fact that people are praising her actions doesnt surprise me. Imagine if a company could go to your home and start destroying your property if you dont pay your bill... Now, if she had gone in and got behind the counter and had her service turned on and working, then she would have been a vigilante. She didnt even go there to get them to turn the service on, she decided to go with another company instead. She did it strictly to "get back" at the "evil" company that has the nerve to charge people for their service. I bet a lot of the story is left out or exaggerated on her part.
Vigilante she isn't... I believe she should attend anger management classes.

SUE THEM

@fastdatatech.com

Hammer Granny

Bank of America and Kemper Investors Life Insurance Company did the same to me as Comcast did to Granny. I "hammered" them by suing them in small claims. They each turned the suits over to their attorneys, one in house, who were very courteous, very apologetic, very competent and very intent on getting the matters resolved before they were presented to a judge. Both paid off in full, including costs of the actions. These monolithic companies are arrogant, rude, have many incompetent employees who are only phone clerks and can't understand what you want, are disingenuous, misleading, provocative, misleading, etc., etc.

Of course, it is not cost effective to use an attorney in small claims because of the large cost. Each side must pay their own attorney. I filed my cases pro se (by self) because I had experience doing so. I am not a trained attorney but a very good "jailhouse" attorney. Any average "Joe" can file a small claims case. Just call your local court and they will tell you how to do it and will probably be able to give you an information packet with instructions and proper forms. Do not let intimidation stop you. Just "Bull" ahead and do it. Let's flood these arrogant, large companies with small claims suits so that they have to hire a whole new cadre of expensive attorneys to defend themselves against these small claims suits. You will get just as much satisfaction doing this as you would using a real hammer, probably more, and besides, you won't get arrested for assault. A small claims suit is not illegal.

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage is next on my list. They have been even worse than the two previously mentioned. I CAN'T WAIT TO "HAMMER" THEM!!!!!

Paypal fund

Seriously, if she had a paypal fund I'd send her a buck.

I've had 3 cable companies provide me the same service. TCI, ATT, then Comcast. Out of all 3 I'd say Comcast is the worst by a significant margin. We need more grannies like this. I think the world might be a better place if there were.

Comcast should have it happen every day in one office or another until they figure it out. Their CRM software Sucks, they're horrible at marketing, and their consistent abuse of the customers they do have is simply going to make every customer run like hell at the first chance they get.

This is the reason FIOS is doing so well. Because the market has a severe dissatisfaction. It's quite literally called Comcastic(already becoming synonymous with Hell) service.

If the short term make my money now before I retire twits don't figure that out soon. They'll simply just be selling Comcast down the drain as more and more customers make the switch to the alternatives.

If they charge a monopoly price why can't they provide a monopoly service. Ma-Bell at least provided incredible service to backup their monopoly.

Even the Mexico version of Ma-bell succeeds primarily because anything they do gets done in 1-2 days. That's how you build a monopoly.

Look at the past. Successful monopolies provided the best services. Standard oil provided all of it's employees and it's customers great benefits in terms of service.

Are we blindly blurring the lines of great service with greater product offering?

Jury Pool

If I were on the jury.. I'd vote not guilty.. just to piss Comcast off. Sometimes hundreds of thousands of pin-pricks to unsatisfied customers is enough to warrant the act of desperation that sends a message to the company. Clean up your act, NOW!

The message is not just to Comcast, but all corporations who take advantage of the customer. Oil companies, Insurance companies, Health-care industry, etc. etc. The days of public apathy are ending with the Bush Administrations last throws of incompetent running of the government. Even if your against little old granny, realize somewhere in your life, your being SCREWED royally by these LARGE corporations, and maybe you don't feel it until it's much to late to do anything about it.

granny

what if the tables were turned, what if the customer service reps started filing fcc complaints about very customer that started cussing them out on the phone? FCC does regulate language used...

frustration is one thing breaking the law is another, and this old woman broke the law period, hopefully the rep involved will take matter into their hands and sue granny. There's always an alternative, you can do satellite and dial-up perfect? no...option...yes...

A lot to consider

First lets say that Manassas is in Virginia for those who don't know a quiet suburb of Washington DC about 38,000 people in population, with above average income. Compared to the rest of the country. Virginia is a state. This part of
Virgina it not uncommon for people to own firearms. I doubt if this was in D.C, New York city or Boston or even in Cleveland Ohio, she would of gotten off so easily.

Anyway, the question is if she was unhappy about local tax rate and went into city hall would her actions still be justified. Lets take a look at her actions for a second...she went down to a payment center after hours, payment centers are not tech support centers, nor are they call centers. They take payments and swap equipment and make sales. People are mistaken in believing that they are tech support. When they are not.

Now the rep should of at least called the office to find out what the problem was on her behalf, and maybe she did. If the problem was with provisioning the number then she should of still had service with her existing phone company. If Comcast had possession of the number then they should of been able to attach the number to the device. The articles had to be wrong, because there is always a supervisor available. They may not be the store manager but a supervisor has to be at the store just to close. It would be hard to imagine that this rep was the only one in the store and there was no supervisor.
So in this way the Rep should have gone the extra mile here, however where the supervisor was to help out is more problematic.

I always have trouble with how people define words here. She is not a Vigilante in the sense that she is not a self-appointed doer of justice. Again failure to give service doesn't make you a Vigilante, nor did anything she did was Brave. She was not helping anyone but herself..She did think she was morally right to do so. so she stood by her convictions no matter how twisted they are. If anything I would say she is an anti-hero.

Satisfied customers

Just curious if anyone has had a poll on the opinions of Comcast customers.
