The anouncement is a lot more than the 20/20

First off, like many OOL people will tell you, the vast majority of broadband users do not care about the UL, just the DL. Second, when I was ordering the 20/20 tonight I mentioned to the sales person that the site was very slow tonight and she said it was because of a new offer tomorrow for the triple play in many states. That doesn't even make sense so I am going out on a ledge here and saying it is TV related or price reductions.

Then it is neither "groundbreaking" nor a "first".

I'd guess "Quad-Play", adding seamless wireless and/or security/alarm services.

Look...Baby Wolf

My guess is some sort of broadband stunt to draw attention away from the fact that the tv thing has turned out to be harder than they expected.

Upstream not a big thing to general public

Why announce the 20/20 package? Most of the general public doesnt use their upstream. So having this huge announcement for it I think wont do much good.

Cablevision already has a package with more downlaod 38/5 so announcing a 20/20 package wont do any good.

Has to be something else.

I drempt...

That the big announcement is that Vz. has won a contract with the fine folks that build those wireless ankle bracelets for those on house arrest.

Now those on house arrest also have to buy and keep activated a Vz WiFi connection to the card which also has GPS in it to stay on house arrest!

Re: Verizon Business First Telecommunication Provider to Make...

That's the Business Division..not Consumer FiOS. I saw that presser on the Verizon website as well.

I'd like to find the article that is the basis of this thread at least.

Re: Webcast Info

Given the name of that URL (verizonwebcasts.com/2020), it is probably the announcement of the 20/20 symmetrical service. Oh well.

Re: Webcast Info

Good observation but I still have to believe there is more to this. Something to really kick the cable companies in the teeth. Since Cablevision offers more than just bandwidth for their top tier service, VZ will need to do the same or better to attract those customers.

Re: Webcast Info

It will be the 20/20 package, because I can order it online right now for $64.99/month which if you need the upstream speed is a darn good price.

Re: Webcast Info

I want that so bad! But no FIOS on my street yet.
But I did see some black coiled wire on a pole yesterday. Looks new. I can only hope!

And at 11:33 EDT am in Maryland, 20/20 is NOT available on the verizon web site.

Wait, the site just went "unavailable" OK, guess we need to wait until 2 PM to confirm.

I was able to see it online yesterday but only as a change to my exisiting service. It was not on the front page when you check your number.

Yep, its the 20/20 "Symmetrical Tier" service. Available only in NY, NJ, and CT. There is also a new "High-speed Tier" of 50Mbps/5Mbps.

And the usual "Mid-Tier" 20/5 and "Standard Tier" 10/2.

Notice the lack of 5/2.

20/20 Tier CONFIRMED!

This is 100% confirmed...just check the slides on the webcast page. There will be a consumer 20/20 tier added! Lots of upload speed, but still not exactly as groundbreaking as I had hoped.

Good grief

Yet more speed increases up yonder and we are still stuck on the original tiers here in TX. Oh well, it works I guess.

Re: Good grief

They are doing it to compete with Cablevision. Notice how it is only available in states where Cablevision operates. They really should have gone to 30/30 since they can and that way they match the Cablevision top tier plan (Boost) for download and then trounce it on the upload.

Port 80?

This might be worth it if they don't block port 80 on this tier.
