Comments on news posted 2007-10-24 09:10:27: When the FCC first released their rules on the upcoming 700Mhz spectrum auction, the phone industry was outraged that they might not be able to transfer their closed, restrictive 3G model onto any new broadband network built with obtained spectrum. ..

...and so on...?

Like crap ass trinket content sales, disabling of features such as Bluetooth OBEX, and planned device obselecense through withholding software upgrades? If that's the kind of "quality" I get through Door #2 then I think I'll pass.

Except you can bet that Door #1 will be riddled with hurdles and pressure-sales tactics to steer you to Door #2. Nothing overtly against the rules, but just barely within the (industry lobbyist written) rules. With those tactics in place, Verizon can claim to be supporting an open network while still not *really* supporting it. In fact, they can then show Door #2 sales figures and claim that a closed, locked down network is what consumers actually want.

yes, and that is because the technology industry has made lemmings out of most of the public. It is more of a social disorder than anything.

Door No. 2?

They really couldn't come up with anything better to compare their "current service" to than Door Number 2? And why do I picture Verizon sticking it up your "door" number 2?

The the bluetooth feature I want to work is DUN. I bought a GPS/WIFI/Bluetooth PDA a few months ago, and should be able to establish a Dial-up networking session, dialing in to MSN's dial-up network (I don't have a cellular data plan), but was told by my cell company that this feature has been disabled. If I am not near a WIFI hotspot while traveling, I want to be able to dial in and get on line (even if dial-up is slow, it works, or should!).

Google put up or shutup.

The time has come Google. Put your billions where your mouth is. Google has the money to bid, buy and then give it away. Come on Google show us the way it should be done. Don't worry about the owners they will understand.

Oh that's right, Google takes, Google does not give.

Verizon pulls a fast one on FCC lawsuit

Looked like Verizon ended its battle with the FCC over auction rules when it withdrew its lawsuit. Guess again!! The trade association that Verizon is part of refiled the suit using the same language under the association's name.
