And I'd like to see little cuddly pink bunny rabbits hopping around delivering Easter Eggs, but guess what, it's not going to happen.

Finally some blowback.

Hopefully this makes Martin think twice about being such a telco whore.

Here
Script is always the same

Regulate cable= bad
Regulate telco= good

If AT&T and Comcast took Martin out to dinner I imagine the headline would be that AT&T is buying Martin while Comcast is just trying to befriend him.

Actually, the headline would probably read, AT&T and Martin went to dinner and Comcast was forced to pay for the meal while standing in the rain on the street.

It won't help a bit. He knows that he's out of a job when Bush leaves office and has put himself in a position to collect millions in consulting fees (payoffs) from the telcos. He couldn't be more obvious if he had "Property of Verizon" tattooed on his forehead.

Seriously, jgkolt See Profile brought a point the table. You just made yourself look like an idiot. I'm sure you're proud too, but I agree with jgkolt See Profile.

Telco regulation for pots made sense at one time. Even the USF started out on the right track. But money and power corrupt all.
Regulation is a tricky thing to get right. Take Verizon. Builds a new network and is mostly unregulated. Makes sense for now.
If they were forced to do open access they would not invest in the network. No franchise agreements and they move into towns quickly.
The downside, no build out requirements so not everyone gets it. CLECS are locked out, you take what verizon offers. Towns loose public access channels.
Everything is a trade-off. With these kind of natural monopolies we have limited choices:
No regulation, the customer is at the mercy of the corporations, most of which choose their own interests over the good of the customer or the state.
More regulation, adds costs and the corporations have no incentive to roll out new technology so they settle back into their fat government regulated world and abuse the customer with as many fees and as limited service as they can get away with.
Unless the FCC, PUCs and other regulators work for both the good of the customer and corporation, one side or the other comes out the looser, and the funny thing is when the corporations loose, in the end the customer always looses too.

Ha! Apparently you haven't been out lately on Easter.

That Easter bunny is just as real as residential broadband competition in the USA.

You can agree all you want, it's still not going to happen. Besides, what do the comments (especially the ones about telcos) made by jgkolt See Profile have to do with Martin's attempt to levy additional regulation on cablecos. Perhaps you hope that Martin will require cablecos to provide wholesale access to competitors to eliminate the requirement to build out their own infrastructure. Good luck with that hope.

Yeah...he's pissing off THEIR sugar daddies-the MSOs!

C'mon! The only reason "other members of his party are calling it misguided and harmful" is that THEY'RE on the take from the big cable MSO's!

Let's get real-HE'S on the telco 'take' which leaves the cable 'take' for them!

Actually - his point is valid - until these other companies are willing to lay out huge sums of money to wire a location for an undefined return - no one else is going to be able to compete even if it is allowed. He just out it in a humorous way - that is all.

Not only willing to put up the money for cables to be run, but also needs to actually get a franchise agreement with city. If a franchise reform goes through and are no longer needed then the issue of money still stands.

It cost to much to overbuild a system, when you may only get 20% of the subscribers. They would buy a system rather than build it.

The closes you may get is ATT or Verizon doing an overbuild, but that could be 15yrs from now and ATT and Verizon wouldn't overbuild each other.
