that there is a difference between ionizing radiation and nonionizing radiation? Wi-Fi falls in the latter of these two groups and is harmless.

Sure, get a strong enough signal and you could boil the blood in my body. That's why we have teams of engineers developing these technologies under heavy government oversight.
But I guess people are sheep and will believe anything. Better get rid of my cell too. |

Unless you pump up the power sufficiently, then you'll just cook yourself. |

| cordless phone...
I would guess that it has just as much of an impact as a cordless phone... considering they both operate at 2.4 Ghz and go about just as far... I've had my cordless and wifi close to the same frequency before... on the cordless it gets a bunch of static and is hard to hear the other person... I ended up buying a 5.8 ghz phone so they dont interfere anymore... but I would imagine that they are both have the same effect... not to mention you dont have the intenna right next to your head like a cordless phone... |

Everything is safe in moderation. This topic is hard to talk about because you get the two extremes, the people that are freaked out about wifi and then you get the sarcastic types like "put on a tin foil hat" and believe that there is no harmful radiation. |

| reply to SuperJoker Ban the microwave? Are you crazy? I would have to eat out all the time!!!
Now, a $500 fine for talking on a cellphone on the road in Florida would be okay with me. Idiots at Yellow Cab have nearly hit me 4-5 times this year alone chatting on their cellphones. Regular drivers maybe 9-10 times. Now, stupid teens are text messaging and driving. 4 teens got killed doing that in an SUV on the highway. Gee, that's stupid!
You are about 75% more likely to have an accident, something like 75% fatal on highways, when talking and driving. -- Saving the world keeps me busy. However, I find Earth very primitive from my home planet of Krypton. -Supergirl |

The problem is they are going after just WiFi equipment. They do not realize that cell phones, microwave ovens, cordless phones and various other household appliances emit the same or more radiation than a router.
Schools wanting to ban WiFi need to also realize that they would need to ban microwave ovens. Try telling a teacher that she can't have her Lean Cuisine meal or no more microwave popcorn. The same idiots that don't want WiFi in their homes have a cordless and cell phone that they use all day long.
I'll bet that if you tried to ban cell phones instead of WiFi, you would get a very different reaction. |

| reply to lrtc Oh, I believe there is harmful radiation, but Wi-Fi isn't it. Like I said ionizing vs. nonionizing. The people who freak out are just uninformed. The people who don't freak out might be uninformed too, but they also might know enough to know when to freak out. |
