Comcast isn't that bad.

If you have several million customers and 99.99% of those customers are happy or satisfied with their customer service from Comcast, that still leaves a helluva lot of people who are not and are going to be vocal about it. Overall, they are probably doing a pretty decent job.

People happy with service just go about their normal days and very rarely give positive feedback, especially if it is a service that they take for granted.

They can't be doing that poor a job, if they were there would be a few million people making complaints all over the place. MILLIONS of people. Their service is probably pretty good for the most part.

It's good that they are focusing on it though, and it's DAMN GOOD that they are providing more and more US jobs.

People forget, it's a good thing that an American company is doing well, even if it is an evil cable company, or a satanic oil company, or whatever.

Re: Comcast isn't that bad.

Good points, the other side of that is that most people will put up with service being just okay or even bad for a LONG time before they start complaining. When they do, it's going to be a hugh cry of bloodiy murder. I think Comcast knows this and does a good job of keeping their services from getting to that point.

If 99.99% of Comcast customers were happy, Comcast wouldn't have gotten a reputation of providing horrific service.

Do you have any evidence of that? Judging by the reviews posted here at BBR, 3x more people post positive reviews than negative reviews (overall).

Comcast is great as long as you don't have a problem

The main issue I have with Comcast (more than even price) is that when something goes wrong and you try to report it you are treated as either a liar or an idiot.

Here's what I've found to be the basic steps of getting a signal problem fixed with Comcast:
1. Call Comcast and report a problem. They will schedule a technician to come your house anywhere from a day or two to a week later.
2. Technician shows up, takes readings and says he can't fix the problem and needs to schedule a line tech. This can take up to 7 days.
3. Line tech does whatever he does, but problem is not fixed.

You'd think that at this point you could just get a line tech out again, but you can't you need to repeat steps 1 to 3 until eventually problem is fixed or you get fed up and cancel.

I have signal problems at least twice a year and it can take up to a month to get them fixed, especially if my neighbors don't report the same problem (even though they are experiencing said problem).

You can have the best phone support people and technicians in the world, but if people's problems aren't fixed in a reasonable amount of time, none of that makes a difference.

I was in the same boat -- we had a signal issue that would cause TV and Internet to go down when the temperature would fall below 40F. It took two tech visits (neither tech could do anything as it was a line issue beyond our tap). It kept getting 'referred to maintenance,' and took over three weeks to finally get fixed.

comcast problems

The worst part about working for a subcontractor is. The constant yelling to get it done faster as most subcontractor's are piecerate not hourly. So inturn the yelling to get it done faster GET UP THAT POLE HURRY!!! UP. Makes for a pissed of installer's and installer's that don't really give a shit about the install and just run in and out to get the money!

Re: comcast problems

Around here we have T.W. and the contract out too CableExpres, and let me tell you 99.9% of the time they do a dam good job. I have had a CableExpress installer at several different residences, and unlike the actual T.W. techs they are concerned both about it working, and how it looks, which is rare.
They actually ran a new drop at my old house not because it wasn't working but because it looked like shit, but that is something the T.W. techs never cared about.
So, if it is peice rate they are on it must work.

Re: comcast problems

All the same here different companies. everyone cared about the install as we had Q.C guys following everyone checking work. But the techs which there was a lot of them ended up going to comcast at a hourly rate or quiting. Because they were tired of being yelled at about time and money. Specially when your putting your life on the line to climb the poles and people have died. We used all top notch wiring etc. and even put in water drip loops when other contractors wouldn't a very nice install. There was also the minimum wage list a couple of weeks below 10bucks an hour your let go. But when your new, well where I was at they gave us horrible routes. they also don't give the triple play(voip phone) install for quite a while which really drops your rate. Not to mention the cameras in the trucks. To constantly monitor your going into a gas station incorrectly and setting the camera off or over speeding!?????????

The main problem is with the whole system clogging up or not being efficiant enough. Not really with the installs, although I,ve seen some bad stuff. I,ve seen alot of guys just reschedule a appoinment for no reason, Basicly not wanting to climb the pole or hang a drop etc. Also comcast sends out a hell of alot of bad cable boxes!!!!!!!!!!!! which really screws things up when your 2 or 3 spares are no good? cable is really fast when working correctly or when not usually mentioned(OFF PEAK HOURS) something I don't think they tell you about?

Some people are happy

Yes the short sellers of Comcast (Commycast) stock are very happy people and when the stock market in general drops at least 50 percent more Comcast's stock will drop another 75 percent bettering the market drop by 50 more percent.

Comcast increases rates AGAIN

GOOD Luck with that, I see they are going up on rates YET again...no wonder satellite is so more appealing; the outlandish prices Comcast charge for their lackluster lineup..

Please, not Calgary

"new US call center handling calls previously outsourced to Canada".

I hope they aren't pulling the plug on the Calgary call center. When I've had problems in the past, Calgary always has the answer, the solution and solves the problem immediately. Texas, St. Louis and even my local call center will scratch their heads, make stupid recommendations (unplug the router and the modem as if I hadn't already tried that).

Once, the St. Louis call center told me he'd email Calgary and they'd solve the problem in the morning! I always ask when calling CS what city they are in. I avoid Texas like the plague. St. Louis people are nice but not usually able to solve a problem. Calgary works every time for me.
