But since this isnt a shock that a company "lost" an order but really hadnt i'm wondering what the news is hear? Comcast does this, ATT does this. Verizon does this.
So again this is news how? or why? Bad things happen. No company is perfect.
The real question is how did/do they resolve the issue to the customer.

How do you know that call number 1 was not from Verizon saying "sorry Matt, the order placed on the 7th fell through the cracks but we have re-scheduled for the 29th...is that OK?" but YOU and I will never know because he refused to take the calls so he is as much a part of the problem as Verizon is. You can't have it both ways in life, yes Verizon does screw up and so does every other cable company in the world. You need to be part of the solution and answering calls from the company you originally placed the calls with is part of that responsibility. I never said it was ok to rip up his lawn or disconnect his service. He needed to be more proactive in this situation.

| | | | | | While I sympathize with this guy's plight and I hate Verizon as much as the next guy, your statement disregards the fact that he:
a) placed an order with Verizon (which they lost) b) provided authorization for Verizon to port his number c) ignored calls from Verizon's CS department
The techs who did the physical install did not "rip out his cable and take over vonages phone service when he told them not to". They cut the cable by accident and fixed everything they screwed up that same day. If you think that there is some massive Verizon contractor conspiracy out there disconnecting citizens' cables and connecting their own, you should turn off your computer and go back to watching Oliver Stone movies.
Also, once you provide authorization to port your number, it's getting ported - lost FiOS order or not. The FiOS order is a separate order than the number porting. It's highly unfortunate that he couldn't get an order number from VZN to begin with and it's even unlikely that they explained the LNP process to him in detail. Since the LNP order went through, then there is absolutely nothing that Verizon can do - they were correct in that they cannot help him get things back to the way they were, whether it was their fault or not. If he had contacted Vonage like they told him off the bat instead of throwing a fit, he might have been able to get the number back faster.

Same here, although it would be replacing Time Warner RR Turbo 10/1 service, I would love to have even the lowest tier of FIOS, as I'm really only on Turbo for the upload. The only other option here is Verizon DSL 3/768, which pales in comparison to RR. Also of note, some local ISP's think they can compete with 768/128 service for $34.95

after this, what does it matter that he refused to take any calls from verizon? after he refused to have a different date for his install, it should, in theory, have been added to his customer record. but that's just my take from working in telcom..

Or not. We'll never know. This is just my take from having worked for Verizon in the past.... If only I could write a book. Not to mention the general house cleaning that Verizon DSL needs, Verizon the Phone company is usually much better, But there are some people there that are as bad as the DSL people, They could use It, Of course I don't know about the FiOS bunch. Verizon DSL is so hard to work with to Me, Just trying to report an outage makes them think that I'm having sync issues and so they wouldn't give Me anything higher than 768K/128K(I'd had 3M/768K since July 2004), At least the phone company saw through that and I now have 6M/768K DSL(I'm 8,890' from the CO, Which is better than the 12,117' I'd been at in 2004 at a different residence nearby, So I'm now 3,227' closer than before I moved:D) and for only $8.00 more per month before the Backend of Verizon DSL lost My data for the DSL line card, Can You say no data backups for critical data? If It goes, They have to start You off from scratch as the Frontend(Billing) knew I was a customer and activated for DSL, Just not the Backend(the CO), One of the Techs actually questioned whether I was a full Verizon customer or not(Meaning He didn't think I had Verizon Phone service at all), At least I had the website repointed after all this mess was fixed and so I didn't lose the website address It had and I didn't have to install or try and install any of Verizons software which doesn't last I looked like or install under XP x64 at all from the CD. Some of their software probably wouldn't run under XP x64 anyway, But then I have all the security software I'll ever need installed already. And I'm not using Verizons email either cause of Me being disconnected from My DSL prior to My reconnection to DSL again, But It's no loss really, As gmail works nicely and doesn't have the bad points about the email account from Verizon, Of course gmail is received here in Outlook Express just fine, Much to Verizons chagrin, My email is now ISP independent. I could go to their competition without bothering It, Nice. Thank You Google. -- (25.92GHz crunching for SETI with the PC Perspective Killer Frogs)

i find it odd that someone would see trucks in front of their house, watch them tear up his front lawn, then he talks to the installers and permits them to finish the outside install for something that he doesn't want in the first place.
why would anyone in their right mind to that?
yes, the customer service rep made a mistake when he was told they couldn't find an order. or perhaps they had a systems problem and data was being restored or recreated (which explains the order being entered at a later time). who knows.
