Not bad to get 100Mbps at a few hundred meters. But it will obviously appear to be slower once you put the load of a entire area on it of wireless users. Plus, most people will probably be further away than a few hundred meters from the tower. But a step forward it is. -- William Ruckman »ruckman.net |

The challenge for getting this in the US is that I don't think ATT/Verizon have 20mhz of available spectrum nationwide. They have in about half the US but not nearly enough for all major markets. I don't know if there is enough spectrum in the 700mhz auction for one carrier to get 20mhz.
WiMAX 802.16m may be able to do 1Gbps by the time LTE is available. Sprint actually has enough spectrum to do it (over 96mhz per market avg) but we'll probably never see that. |

Close enough. Technically it's like 39.4 inches. |

One of the purposes of LTE is to reduce the minimum required spectrum from 5MHz paired as UMTS requires today. While you won't see 100Mbps on smaller allocations, it will be possible for the carriers to phase it in over a period of months or years, if necessary, unlike what Cingularat&t has been doing with UMTS/HSDPA. |

Don't let the recent "open" bs they released to the press get your hopes up. LTE may look good but can't wait to see he local water company embrace it and install it on it's water meters. |

There's no way these speeds can be hit. It's theoretical at best because providers can't get that much bandwith to 85% of the country. You may see it "IN" big cities inside the fiber rings but forget about it elsewhere. Also prepare for caps on downloads where it does come too. By the Byte comes to mind... Or TV and Movie serevice only thru the provider ect.. |
