Comments on news posted 2008-01-09 10:05:22: AT&T this year will voluntarily put mechanisms in place that will filter pirated material from the company's network. No specific technology has been announced, but insiders say that AT&T has been testing a solution from Vobile since last Spring. ..

| Read about the technology first According to Vobile, the only way they 'discover' the content is by looking at the WEBSITE you are choosing to download from. They don't do 'packet scanning', as that would be impossible.
Look to see ALL the torrent sites just go to https, problem solved. -- Stick it to the MAN. Support your local torrent sites. Proudly providing 100mb of upstream for all your TV, Movie, and MP3 needs.

| Encryption & VPN How are they gonna "filter" encrypted content, or are they gonna filter/block entire domains and/or IPs based on suspicion? So, if you use alot of bandwidth you'll be filtered and/or blocked. You probably won't be able to connect to thepiratebay, isohunt, etc.. | |

| Beginning of the end of the Net. With at&t, one of the very biggest Telco and DSL providers filtering, and some of the biggest Cable operators forging/blocking, you've already got large chunks of the country where unfettered internet broadband simply won't be available.
This will grow. Filters will be expanded. Blocks will increase in scope. And one day, the internet as we knew it will be a distant memory, replaced instead as a commercial medium for advertising and mining of consumer wallets through various pay services.
"The fires of Isengard will spread; and the woods in Buckley will burn; and all that was once green and good in this world will be gone. There won't be a shire, Pippin." -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!)

| Creating Private Nets Seeing how cheap equipment are, I think when the Internet becomes a burden, being inaccessible based on the ISPs anti-competitive behavior, people will setup smaller neighborhood/city wide nets?
They're already filtering outside their network voip, slingbox, or various video streaming / on demand sites. They claim it gobbles bandwidth+hurt their potential video distribution profits. As it stands bittorrent+ed2k is being shaped like hell.
