This doesn't sit right with me. This prevents the consumer from purchasing the domain name at a different provider if he wishes. For instance, if he doesn't like how network solutions is run or finds a cheaper price he can't go somewhere else. Simple solution, don't use network solutions for anything. Don't even search using them. Starve them. |

I can't believe people still use these folks. While I don't begrudge a company to make money, this is over the line. If you're worried about front-runners so much, put a captcha there for bots, or make the process long and tedious for humans.
This is nothing but a ploy to prevent registration at a cheaper registrar masquerading as the good sheriff. |

I have had to deal with network solutions on several occasions with different clients and their prices are outrageous compared to other domain sites. Obviously, they can't compete with the other companies if they don't cheat! |

I think you mean Internic (If you have questions, comments or complaints about accredited registrars, go to www.internic.net.) |

I think they can sit the domain for 5 days, with no fee. What they do is submit the request, register it, then back out due to "non payment".
It doesn't really work that way but it is the same process they use when doing transactions. They "float" the domain for a few days. Technically it's a client hold process, testing the viability of the client's status. |

When I first registered a domain name used Network Solutions. Figured as legacy registrar they would be more stable better then newcomers. Sadly that has not been true. Moved to other registrar years ago.

we can use this to our advantage. Now someone can block someone else from registering a domain. This doesn't sit right with me either. -- 3 free for you/3 free for me: Free Stock Trades : PM Me |

| Network Solutions is a terrible company
A friend had 2 domain names registered at Net Sol. He switched ISP's and his old email address used by Net Sol was lost. He never received emails regarding his password being changed on his Net Sol account.
Net Sol make it almost impossible to renew the domain name which went into the "awaiting renewal or deletion" status. 3 times he faxed off the required info to get his password and update his email address. They kept sending back information on the wrong account. You cannot get a real person and he ended up loosing one domain, the other went into a 30 day hold where Net Sol wanted a premium to get it back. Nothing like holding the customer hostage!! The Net Sol web site plainly said it was a 30 day hold, which in itself is wrong.
Eventually after more like 60 days, not 30 the domain became available so he purchased it from a much cheaper (and better) registration company. There they had to do some manual intervention because even though Net Sol said the domain was available they still had some kind of hold on it
I would not use Net Sol to register anything. |

Why? Network Solutions has bought and paid for them. The fact that every time the monopoly on .com registrations comes up for renewal it automatically gets handed to Network Solutions is a good indication of that. The best workaround is TO NOT use NSI for domain availability queries but rather one of the other providers. The question I do not see an answer to is this activity taking place from www.networksolutions.com queries or from www.internic.net queries? I guess I need to do some testing and see what is up. -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. |

Why not just have a domain-search party. Go to Network Solutions website and search for available domains until they spend so much money registering domains that you aren't going to buy that they will have to either stop the process or go out of business. |

| ICANN looking in to this - BUT could take a couple years
ICANN says they are aware "domain tasting" or "front running" is a problem. And they are going to study the problem - which could take months to a couple years. »ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jQ6j···8U2GJPO0
In a draft report issued this week, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers outlined key issues for a committee to study further and craft recommendations. A final report is due after a public comment period closes Jan. 28.
Don't expect any immediate relief. The committee, the Generic Names Supporting Organization, could take months or years to review the matter, after which ICANN's board still would have to vote on any changes. Here is the ICANN report on "Domain Tasting": »gnso.icann.org/issues/domain-tas···an08.pdf You can comment on their report here: domain-tasting-2008@icann.org And see other comments here: »forum.icann.org/lists/domain-tasting-2008/ -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page |

They dont have an email you can send to but everytime i try to use their form they give me an error "Remove spaces from the start and end of the data" MAYBE THEY DONT WANT TO PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR THE PREMIUM priced domain registration.
