Ah, the Wildcat! BBS. Between that and PCBoard, that's all of the BBS software I remember from back in the day.

Haha yep thats it. 20+ years ago. Crazy I even knew what the hell I was doing back then. Parents got me a 2400 baud modem with Prodigy and I somehow wound up on BBR 20 years later. Go figure.

I remember Zmodem being one of the best things I ever used - at the time. So much better than Ymodem and tons better than Xmodem.

I'm really stretching deep down, back into the depths of my brain to remember all this shit I used to download porn with. Kids have it so easy these days with "the web".

Whoah, I remember trying to look at porn on a Hercules monitor, then finally I got EGA and it was like "whoah" then I saw VGA for the first time - 640x480x256 I think with 256K RAM on an 8-bit ISA card - downloading stuff in the middle of the night with my trust Practical Peripherals 2400 baud modem with scheduled downloads to max out my daily file/Kbyte limit. Then my 20 MB MFM hard drive would fill up and I'd delete a bunch of stuff then do it all over. Ahh, to be a teenager again. oh but when 16-bit color came out, holy shit!!

Don't know if Mom ever knew what those squeeling sounds were on the phone when she picked up.... ("mom, hang up the phone!!!!!")

So Your Mom did that too? I'd tell Her I'm on the phone and She'd not connect the noise and Me, Boy was she dumb as She'd do It from time to time thinking She could call somebody, Explaining a computer download to Her would have been waste of time and yep I'd thought about It too, Her idea of the phones use was for the phone only to be used for talking by voice and nothing else, So why bother trying to educate Her. She would today object to Me using a Dishwasher to clean a heatsink of dust and dirt, Of course I pre-clean the heatsink of any heatsink compound including Arctic Silver as I don't want that stuff in the dishwasher at all, Of course the heatsink was in the upper rack and the dishwasher was set on Normal with both soap dishes filled, It came out warm, steamy, wet and most importantly nice and Shiny Clean of any swamp cooler deposited crud(crud=moisture+dust) that normal cleaning would not touch, The Vigor Monsoon II heatsink and fan shroud had to separated so that both would come clean, But It was easy to do, Of course the fan had to go in the wash too(hardwired), the fan looks fine afterwards and is dry now, This Tuesday I'll install It after removing the old one and the motherboard, The Ultra ChillTEC that I have(in another PC) will not require this extreme removal step of course just to install a clean heatsink and I may get another one or two in the future.

What, you have a hard wired modem?!?!
Not a 75 baud telephone coupler.

I have an old US Robotics 1200 bps modem at "Ye Olde Computer Museum" in my cube at work. I also have a colorful bunch of punchcards (never used). An 8" hard drive from one of our old mini computers. A 5 1/4' good ol' Seagate ST-251 drive. A couple of assorted ISA, EISA, VESA Local Bus cards, an old Hayes 2400 bps modem, and a newer USR 28.8. I have floppy drives and diskettes of the 8", 5.25" and 3.5" variety. There is a copy of OS/2 Warp, DOS 5.0, DOS 3.1, and Windows 3.0 all in their own original shrinkwrap! There's even a slide rule and an abacus, both fully functional! Sometimes people come to stop and stare.

When I start to think about all the stuff I used to mess with, I come to the realization that I have probably forgotten more than some of our younger techs and programmers know!

For all you pr0n hounds out there, here is a bit of nostalgia...

I happened to meet someone during the normal course-of-business and then one day I saw this:

»www.totse.com/en/law/hig ··· ust.html

»venus.soci.niu.edu/~cudi ··· proposal

HAHA! Big tits at 300 baud. How long does it take to D/L a pair of 42DD's at 300 baud...??

Turns out that this person and his wife were the operators of the "Amateur Action BBS"...one of the first pr0n BBS's on the Internet. Well, it wasn't even the Internets at that time.

Ah, the nostalgia of the look backwards. We were SO very much simpler then...

Nano - the $2500 car from India

India's Tata Motors is coming out with a $2,500 car. It looks OK and is way cheaper than the Mercedes Smart For-Two small car at about $12,000. Environmentalists are really upset because it could mean way more cars on India's roads because of the low price.

Here is a YouTube video on the car:

»www.youtube.com/watch?v= ··· q9bKRmc0

Tata Motor's CEO defends the car as meeting the toughest EU and India environmental laws and that it puts out less pollution than the motorbikes currently being used by India's motorists.

The question is: will these eventually be exported to US at slightly higher prices to meet accident safety regs?

Yugo? Yugo nowhere!

And while were talking about safety california you hear 20 people got injured and it ended up being only 2 cars involved.

How did that happen? Over crowding cars.

This is a golf cart with a roof. The price is great, but I mean who's willing to risk their life in one of these. Don't get me wrong, they say they meet/exceed international safety standards. That's just wonderful. But around here, we have soccer moms and the guys with tiny pricks (no offense) driving these monstrosities of vehicles; Suburbans, Tahoes, Armadas, Land Cruiser, etc. You get hit by Ford Excursion in one of these and kiss your ass goodbye.

Bush & top Dems looking to jumpstart economy

»www.bloomberg.com/apps/n ··· refer=us
President George W. Bush and his economic advisers are considering a tax rebate targeted at low- and middle-income Americans as part of plan to avoid a recession, according to a government official. While the White House hasn't settled on a final economic- stimulus package, the main pillars will probably be a business-investment incentive and a temporary income-tax rebate of several hundred dollars per household, the official said.

Proposed stimulus measures linked to housing and mortgages are no longer a top priority after being discussed in White House talks that began in late November, the official said. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has supported the business-investment incentive to get companies to spend money, he added.

Democrats in Congress also say they want to work with Bush. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada sent a letter to Bush today asking for a meeting to discuss ``timely, targeted and temporary'' measures that could be ``implemented into law without delay.'' Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton unveiled a $70 billion stimulus plan today with an additional $40 billion tax rebate for middle-income families that would be rolled out if the economy worsens.

The comments increased speculation that the Federal Open Market Committee will cut its benchmark rate by half a percentage point, to 3.75 percent, this month.
A tax rebate would be nice. But I'll just end up investing it in the stock market and not increasing my spending. I am sure the pols are hoping most people will go out and buy things.

The Hive Cluster is under attack!

So my friends and I are going to use one of my sub domains to build our Hive Cluster. Basically it's a massive amount of text and some photos. The Hive will include everything known by each of us put together, info on every topic you can imagine.

What we can't decide:

I think we should use a wiki system, some want it more blog style, others want it as a giant CMS system (like Joomla!,Drupal, e107, or Xoops).

So, thoughts anyone?

Avoid Barbara Moratek

»www.securitypronews.com/ ··· are.html
Criminals have been packing an assortment of sites with malware and other junk, and are using the name "Barbara Moratek" to get those sites indexed by Google and others. Spammers have emailed the usual 419 scam to small non-profit groups, and attached the Moratek name to make it look authentic. Alex Eckelberry of Sunbelt described why the spammers did this:

It's likely that malware sites are taking advantage of the fact that people will be googling this name to find out more about it, by stuffing pages with the term "Barbara Moratek" (spamdexing), having purchased or otherwise acquired "zeitgeist" keywords (meaning, loading sites up with current "hot" keywords and then using them to lure people to their site).

Following the link would be, predictably, dangerous. Ferguson showed the "bouncing malware" path of numerous redirects, all aimed at bringing the victim to a place where they would be prompted to download the Zlob binary, disguised as an ActiveX control. "I continue to be amazed at the efforts of cyber criminals to social engineer the web, poison web search engines, pollute news & blogging websites, register bogon domains, and obtain hosting in their ongoing efforts to reach their ultimate goal - to separate more & more unsuspecting users from their money," said Ferguson.
Malware scum use all the tricks to get people to link to their poisoned web sites.

OJ off to jail for breaking bail restrictions

What a moron.
»news.yahoo.com/s/ap/2008 ··· _simpson
O.J. Simpson was taken into custody Friday in Florida and will spend several days in a Las Vegas jail before a judge hears allegations that he violated terms of his bail in an armed robbery case here, court officials said.

Clark County District Attorney David Roger alleges that in a November voice message, Simpson told his bail bondsman to contact co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart and express frustration about testimony given at the hearing where Simpson, Stewart and a third man were ordered to stand trial.

"I just want, want C.J. to know that ... I'm tired of this (expletive)," Simpson is quoted as saying in a transcript that was included in Roger's motion to revoke bail, filed Friday. "Fed up with (expletive) changing what they told me. All right?"

Simpson had been instructed by Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure in September not to have any contact with anyone involved in the case — not even by "carrier pigeon."

My first experience with Ethernet over Power (EoP) has been positive so far. Now keep in mind I have yet to test LAN transfer speeds, but I am now able to max out my WAN connection at ~17Mbps vs the ~5Mb/s over wireless. I'm a happy camper thus far...

I've discovered 2 things, not quite about Ron Paul

The first is if you find yourself in a heated political debate with a Paulistinian (soon to be Paul bearer),
and you consistently mispronounce RP's name as Ru Paul,
they eventually become so annoyed, that THEY will leave YOU alone.

The second is that you can easily Deface a Ron Paul sign to read Ru Paul for President. There's an almost mathematical poetry in the ability to do that.

Re: I've discovered 2 things, not quite about Ron Paul

I'd rather vote for John McCain than a Libertarian in Republican clothing better known as Ron Paul, So far RP has had little real support. RP has gotten a promised 2 Delegates, Whereas McCain has 7 Delegates and has a promised 10 Delegates, I'm Registered for the February 5th Primary in California(Did It online, Jan 21st is the last date to do this bit of sabotage against this Republican stupidity), I'm normally an Independent, For this Election I'll be a Republican, Afterwards I'll be an Independent once again by Reregistering online after the Primary, So much for the useless Ban against those Who aren't pure California Republicans in this day and age of Online Voter Registration.

HD is Overated

Recently my mother purchased a 50” LCD HD TV. I say her new toy on Thanksgiving. She subscribed to Comcast HD channels. When I talked to her; she with a bored sigh remarked pretty pictures. By Christmas the HD Box was gone replaced with the simpler Digital to analog box. As I think about it my mother is on to something. HD TVs are not getting any cheaper and the cries of the people over the need more HD channels.

I believe HD I s noting more that throwing good money and investment for pretty pictures of the same crappy programming. HD TV, Blu-Ray, HD DVD is all over rated. Do not get me started about Dolby 5.1 my old Kenwood sound better for music.
