This is a sign that business is really slowing down for Sprint. |

Dan Hesse will get his nice fat bonus at the end of the year too.
Eliminate the real workers who get things done and still pay the suits a huge bonus regardless of their performance. Excellent. |

Why we never hear the CEOs taking a pay cut? Always the small fishes that takes the blow for the greedy guys up top. The again Sprint would never be in a situation like this one if they were treating their customers right. |

Perhaps time is all it will take, let them bleed a little bit more before moving in for the kill. 5000 last year, more to follow now?
And then there's getting the Federal nod, not that that is ever a real hurdle. -- ....where's my fiber? |

You ever been a CEO? You run the organization where you have to make 60K employees happy and than millions of investors happy too. In the organization that has 60K employees, 5K is the easily "fat" that can be trimmed. Last time I checked this is not China or Russia, communism is not the regime. Your 401K or individually you are investing in Sprint for your retirement. You want more money at the time you retire, you in a way are pressuring the companies you invested in to perform. In order for them to perform, they have to trim the fat and get more efficient. Start cutting out middle management and some of those mediocre employees and in a company of 60K you will find 20K than must be fired. |

Wasn't Alltel recently sold? And as far as the overlap is concerned - that would be 50 million additional subscribers who would be able to take advantage of the Verizon network, allow them to shut down duplicate towers and become the largest carrier overnight. |

| reply to pnh102 Yeah.. Sprint should have bought Alltel or US Cellular... I can only thank Sprint for one thing.. Them laying me off last year.. If they hadn't I would still be there and not have this awesome job managing Verizon FIOS locations... |

I went with Sprint specifically to get away from Verizon and their nickel-and-diming bullshat. The day they buy Sprint is the day I become a T-Mobile customer. |

I don't think Verizon would want to touch the mess that is Sprint. I don't have Verizon Wireless as my personal cell provider but it seems they are doing pretty well without Sprint as it stands now. If they were to acquire Sprint, it would be a huge financial risk for a company that is doing very well. There would be all sorts of problems, and if Verizon is smart, they would want to avoid such hassles. -- Only SHATNER is Kirk. |

Probably why Verizon has not yet offered me the job of Senior VP of Mergers and Acquisitions. Hey I'm a former employee - they could just re-activate me and bridge my years of service, I'll buy Sprint - shut the towers down, overload the network and collect my 6 million in executive perks.....lol Works for me |

As much as I despise Verizon (Wireless and landline from past issues), I don't think Verizon would buy Sprint. A Sprint + Alltel deal would be more likely. -- Canada = Hollywood North |
