 Worldwide?

10 million worldwide?

That's .0015% of the worldwide population .... and torrents are killing the Music and Movie industry?

I think that's proof that crappy music, crappy movies, and a crappy distribution model are killing their respective industries, not bittorrent.

Re: Worldwide?

I agree. Hollywood has been pumping out junk lately. The music just hurts my ears, and most of the movies are just boring.

Verizon Joined The PB Ship?

"Another big sponsor of TPB is broadband provider Verizon. They advertise their “high speed connections” to the bandwidth craving pirates. It’s all about targeted advertising."

I wonder if that's FiOS their advertising?

I couldn't imagine any other isp doing that, must be nice to have Verizon and not worrying about caps or blocking torrents in general.

Only if we get to waterboard the *AA's back. We could probably find out all kinds of interesting things. I'm guessing more politicians would be named than at the local Cat house.

Killing? No.

The RIAA and MPAA blows things out of proportion thats for sure. Seeing their "losses" rack up into the billions of dollars is just outlandish.

Hurting? Yes.

Only a moron would say there is no negative effect from software/music/movie sales from torrents. I personally know a lot of people who use torrents for all their software, music, and movies and don't pay a dime for this material. Other than the burnable DVD to put it all on.

Somewhere in between lies the truth.

Go Go Gadget Torrents!

I support AUDIO piracy because I hope it will ultimately bring focus on on the criminals of the music industry; ie. the Executives of the RIAA membership.

The RIAA member execs belong in jail for countless acts of collusion that have cost consumers billions of dollars over several decades.

Add to that the anti-consumer practices of Payola and pay-for-play, fabricated artist popularity, and further collusion with the radio broadcasting conglomerates; we have a list of less than 200 people responsible for ACTUAL consumer loss through fraud and monopolization.

The dozens of SEC (and other) fines, (by estimates - also totaling over a billion dollars - over 40 years) haven't been enough to offset the lucrative profits garnered through price fixing. It does, however, showcase the evidence of the RIAA's illegal activity. Similar activity would have anyone of us in jail.

Since the people responsible for the loss of billions each, should be prosecuted before the people responsible for a proportionally negligable amount each, first the RIAA execs appear before a grand jury, then we'll give a thought to end user piracy.

Any flaw in my logic TKJunkMail?

Are you going to help with legal representation for people targeted by the RIAA and MPAA? If they follow your advice, they are liable.
Is Verizon and Wal-Mart going to help people who download copyrighted works from Pirate Bay from prosecution?

And Indictment isn't a conviction

Repeat after me. You CAN be indicted, but not convicted. That's how this case will play out. TPB is NOT providing ANY copyrighted works, they are providing 'links'. They don't host anything infringing. If TPB is convicted, then that means google would be liable too, and that will never happen.

Servers? We don't need no stinking servers!

quote:
"Owners say they have no idea where servers are"

Perhaps, but this may be like saying "I didn't inject steroids" Saying it to the media is different then saying it under oath.

Saying things to the media can land you in legal trouble as well. If you say something negative about someone that cannot be backed up with facts and/or you can be proven wrong, you can get sued for libel or slander (depending whether it's verbal or in writing).

People have been convicted for merely providing links to illegal software. Here is one example. »tinyurl.com/265tav

In my opinion, they get what they get. These people, judging by the responses they write when they receive messages or mail of a legal nature is to write smart ass responses. They feel because they are in another country, and that US law does not apply to them, that they are immune and untouchable.

US law stops at the US border. Stop being so arrogant that you think US law applies everywhere.

Believe it or not, there is an international copyright organization(IFPI) that pursues copyright infringement worldwide.
IFPI represents the recording industry worldwide, with a membership comprising some 1400 record companies in 75 countries and affiliated industry associations in 49 countries.
And every country has laws protecting copyright and they also have music companies and artists that demand action by authorities. The U.S. doesn't need to pressure Sweden to enforce their own laws. I am sure they get enough pressure from their own companies and artists.
