Re: Uverse Max

No Way I'll be able to sell my wife on Uverse. It's too expensive!!!

I currently have AT&T Dish Network with Elite Dry DSL. The comparable package with UVERSE is more that $15 more per month. If I want MAX (Which I DO!!!!) is more than $30 more per month.

Re: Uverse Max

I had u-verse installed saturday, I wanted to cancell today, but the wife likes it. I have the u300 package with the elite internet, internet is great, I dont have the high pings other people talk about, but my ping is always 38-39, never varies more than a couple ms, but the BIG downside is the High Definition quality, they shouldnt be able to call it HD, it's barely DVD quality, gone are seeing pores on peoples faces, or noticing fine detail, its like it has a slight blur filter(due to heavy copression)

but the channel line-up is good, and so is internet, but HD=teh suxors

You can cancell the Tv part and still keep the internet.

That 'splains it, Lucy...

I was wondering why Comcast sent me an e-mail last week graciously offering to upgrade me to 16/2 for just $10 more per month.

AT&T Re-Verse?

I hope it hits in Atlanta, GA soon so I can try it out and compare to Comcast-Off. I am a little concerned over the pricing but if I can get decent service comparable to cable, I may be game for the 10MB/1.5MB package.

Does anyone know if they have invisi-caps on their internet?

But still not available in Chicago proper...

Still not available in the city of Chicago..

I live about 800 ft from the CO near Wrigley Field.

You'd think they could put their own equipment in their own building.

Re: But still not available in Chicago proper...

Its more complicated than just ploping down equipment and chicago is a beast into it's self. I'm actually instered in what they'll be doing for chicago.

Re: But still not available in Chicago proper...

It'll cost a pretty penny to try installing VRADS on the streets of Wrigleyville. If there is DSL be happy with that

Re: But still not available in Chicago proper...

True, what I expect them to do is try the pole version or maybe an even smaller version in their vaults... that or I don't know.

One thing about Chicago is their cabling seems more discrete. In Oak Lawn (where I am now) We have less discrete wiring as in we have many wire centers around everywhere, so many that you start to not notice them less you are hunting them like I have been. So ever few blocks in different directions you see a wiring closet, or you might not see it but its there. In chicago I think most equipment like that is in the ground vaults on the polls or in buildings. I don't know how friendly Chicago would be to this technology. One thing I do think is that THEY WILL NOT HAVE THEM ON THE STREETS!

Why would you install a VRAD on the street when the CO is 500 feet (Or less away). I'm not sure of the VRAD distances but good lord, for locations close to the CO, you'd put the equipment in the CO itself.

Being 800ft from the CO must be sweet for the bandwidth of DSL but I see you have RCN. Are they a good company? Where I live I'm out of range by about 3,000 feet, and over the past 4 years I've been begging AT&T to roll out something remote but the demand is too small for a major project like that.

I wish this service was available in the city. I'm not very far from the CO near Carmen/Clark St

Uverse installations are being deployed on the outskirts of Chicago and its neighboring suburbs. I'm near Lincolnwood which is on the list, and your neighborhood of Andersonville has no suburbs within the vicinity.

Same price?

from the article...

Bundles (Express/Pro/Elite/Max per month):
•U-family: $69/$74/$84/$99
•U100: $69/$74/$84/$99

Are the packages really the same price, or is that a typo in the story?

I Can't Believe It

So, north-east IL gets it, but we don't.

I originally thought that it was because the state of IL didn't provide the franchise for AT&T, though I could be wrong.

It's why that although I live in a St. Louis suburb on the IL side, I can't get it.

St. Louis, on the MO side has it, and now Chicago has it. But everywhere else in IL that's AT&T land doesn't have it. Argh.

Right now I live in an apartment where no DSL is available, and it's in a town that's only partially served (southern part of this town, closer to the C.O.). Plus of course no U-Verse either.

So, all I have is a single POTS line via AT&T, and Internet via Charter, which for what I get is more expensive than what AT&T offers. But, I'm stuck with Charter.

Charter Business HSI: $67 for 1.5M/256k, Static IP, one-year contract.

If I could get DSL I would get this instead:
AT&T DSL w/ Static: $70 for 3.0M/512k, Static IP, mo-to-mo. $55 with a one-year contract. It's $5 cheaper for the 1.5M/384k version, if C.O. distance is an issue.

At least I have Charter, or else I'd have to get this:
Second POTS line dedicated for Dial-Up ($25) + Dial-Up account ($5) = $30 for dial-up.

I could've have chosen the cell phone network route, but that's very expensive for what you get, since I would be paying for a feature I don't need (mobility).
