Fiber In The Back Yard!!!!

I live in ST Louis which is about 75% wired with fiber. Couple of years ago they came near my house. More specifically there is a fiber cable about 60 ft. behind my house.

Anyone want to tell me what I should do with a major fiber artery in my back yard??? I'd love to tap my neighborhood into it.

Re: Fiber In The Back Yard!!!!

Go out there with a lazer pointer, some ethernet cable, and a bolt cutter.

You know the rest!!

To good to be true.

The article over simplifies the most important part! I really don't think I can waltz in to my local school, library or business, hook up a leased line and use there bandwidth. If I could get free bandwidth I would be a millionaire. Also I work with these dry (laugh) copper circuits all the time (fire alarm tech). They are notorious for grounds and rogue voltage. Lastly many customers in CT. have to remove their leased lines as the phone company changes trunks over to fiber. Sounds like a good idea but I don't think it is very realistic.

So what how fo you get an Internet Connection?

OK, so what you have modem tied together back to back. Let's say for the sake of argument you can get a clean line. Then what? Where do I get Internet access from and where do I get the IP address? Does anybody know where these Telco Charters and how you find out what's legal and what's not? - Dan

GTCOM SUCKZOR

@gtcom.net

im jealous of you guys

now has any one heard of GTcom....this ghetto @ss shi7 They call "better than modem"i would rather have a 2k connection with modem that 1mbps with my gtcom cause my dsl box has short attension span cause it cant hold a connection for 5 hold minutes But i have noticed some things........Like one time when it was raining and thundering and i let my dsl box stay on during the period of time that it thundered the next 2 days i had a solid connection.....>_> i dont know if this is possible but i think whats going on is the every one who has dsl from them is in a line basicly....people in the front are always connected and people in the back arent they get 5 min worth of connection.....and when the people in the front turns theres off i guess they go strait back to the front

in other words
{people who baught theres first connected all the time}
[People who baught theres later connected for little time]
