What would the purpose be to have such high speeds if ISP's want to regulate, censor, and throttle our connections. With torrent sites falling like flies who needs high speed. I could imagine these clowns offering 280mbps down and 5mbps up. |

| Without details, don't know how widespread offering will be
Until there are details available, we won't know where this may be offered. Or whether it may be available only in extremely limited areas. It takes time and money to rollout all the new Cisco routers and also provision any willing customers with the hardware they need at their end.
Also, no discussion yet on cost. How much will they charge for higher speed tiers? |

| Get ready to upgrade your NICs....
If speeds like this ever come to pass(320 Mbps), get ready to upgrade your NIC cards to Gigabit. Most ones currently in use top out at 100 Mbit..... only thing this type of speed would be useful for would be torrents and other PTP apps. Most sites out there won't put out anywhere near that type of bandwidth..... as mentioned before, with capping, throttling being implemented...who cares? |

"The company, which has been at the forefront of DOCSIS 3.0 deployment in North America, is preparing to unveil faster speeds tomorrow"
Does that mean that they are letting customers order these "new speeds" by tomorrow? |

Does this mean videotron is going to let up on there hugely low caps...if so they become useful. |

Actually that is probably correct. Videotron is using *pre-cert* gear and if you read up on it, almost all the pre-cert gear's main flaw is it does NOT support UPSTREAM channel bonding!
Which means while they can offer 300mbps + down, on the up it will still be 30mbps SHARED upstream for all users on that section! |

| faster upload, I hope
I'm all for an increase in speed in any direction, but where it's really needed is in the upstream direction. A friend of mine has space on my dedicated server where he backs up large data files, each between 600 and 700MB. Do you know how frustrating it is to upload files when you only have 384 kilobits of upload bandwidth? It takes my friend 3 and a half hours to upload a 600mb file, yet he can download that same file in just 10 minutes! I don't know what the upstream limit of Docsis 1.0/1.1 or 2.0 is per node, but I'd have to guess, even Docsis 1.0, which many ISP's still use, can do better than 1 or 2mbps upstream. And yet only cable Vision offers speeds greater than 2mbit upstream to it's users. Get with the times already, and give us more upstream. ISP operators could keep their downstream speeds the same, but add more upload, and I'm sure many of us would be quite happy. |

| Low cap and no upstream
Well Videotron has already a tier called Extreme High-Speed Internet Plus at 20Mb /1 Mb with a cap of 20Go in download and 10 Go in upload for $79.95/month and $7.95 per additionnal gigabyte, no fees limit.
Knowing them, it should be 100Mb / 1Mb at around $99.00 with a cap of, let say, 50Go combined.
So you bust your limit in less than hour.

Considering most upstreams are only running in D1.1 3.2MHz QAM16 and thus limited to 10Mbps using a D2.0 6.4MHz 64QAM upstream and a 4 X 256QAM downstream you'd have 160Mbps down/30Mbps up shared among 500-600 users. Upstream channel bonding is definitely going to be killer but traffic is still asymmetrical to the net so downstream is MUCH more important. |

Cablevision (OptOnline/OOL) is my Connectivity provider and their Standard offering is 15/2 Mbs and their BOOST Offering is 30/5 Mbs (with the 30 down uncapped in the modem settings so you can get over that if your node is currently not overloaded and the incoming feed can support that bandwidth). |

DOCSIS 1.1 - 9Mbps upstream shared between all on the node DOCSIS 2.0 - 27Mbps upstream shared between all on the node DOCSIS 3.0 - Depends on how many channels they bond on the upstream but pre-cert gear is just that because so far, they don't support upstream channel bonding. |

Well said. Of course, we're assuming their plant is clean enough to run QAM64 returns (which is probably a safe assumption since they're spending time and money on pre-cert DOCSIS 3.0 gear in the first place). Nevertheless, there are still plenty of modems out there chugging along with QPSK!
