| TiVo and IPTV
The compression technologies (MPEG4/H.264) are not easy and using the current chips will not allow TiVo to transmit streamed video in real-time to a Television. 2-way audio/video IPTV is the coming wave and those companies who have IPTV set-top boxes will prosper. |

| Also don't tick off the bread and butter
Tivo needs the cable/satellite industry to propagate their business. IPTV would put this revenue stream in serious jeopardy. Also, the internet as it currently stands is not robust enough to support this level of streaming media. Even if you do have fiber or cable to your house you're still dealing with 40 years of technology in between. |

| IPTV vs Amazon Unbox
Tivo is not quite up to the task, but it could be. I've tried the Amazon Unbox on my Tivo HD and find it wanting.
The trouble is that all the content is SD, and many are letter-boxed SD. That means that on an HDTV you get stripes top and bottom unless you "zoom" the picture up to fill the screen. If you do that then you're getting a really lousy quality picture.
If the Unbox experience was good then one could easily see a jump to broader IP distribution using Tivo. -- Michael Graves Houston TX »blog.mgraves.org |

@bsnl.in | TIVO can front-end OpenTV IPTV
OpenTV has middleware for IPTV. I think Tivo is already in the client list of OpenTV. So, they might as well wrap OpenTV's IPTV. |
