| Will this help comatition?
We have wireless here in this small city Norwich N.Y. provided to us with the help of a $200,000 grant from the state, and the cooperation of the local telco Frontier.
We have RoadRunner thru Timewarner and DSL thru Frontier neither offers speeds or pricing which are competitive, 4 and 3 meg speeds respectively.
Getting wireless from the same telco seems to have been designed to eliminate competition and put state tax money in to the right pockets. »www.evesun.com/news/stories/2008···ireless/ The full article in the print edition gave the info about the $200,000 grant.

I was actually surprised to find a Philly Wireless access point right outside my friend's house. This is a few blocks from Nazareth hospital, towards Holme Circle. I wish I could remember the neighborhood name.
Anyway, I was killing time waiting for him to come home around Christmas and fired up my iPhone. When I saw it trying to connect to a Philly Wireless AP I took a quick look around. Right there on the street-light outside his house, antennas sticking up in the air, was a very obvious AP.
So they must be making some progress in the NE. I haven't seen anything here in Fox Chase, but I'm hopeful... |

| Earthlink Poor Customer Service
My experience with Earthlink has been very poor. From day one with this company, it has been an on going nightmare. I had to cancel my service with this company. I would not recommend anyone use this service. The Wi-Fi node was according to their customer service representative approximately 100 - 200 feet from my home. The node was down for 8 weeks and has still not been repaired to my knowledge as of this date. I have never been able to receive service but was charged for services not received.
To top off the no service from this company, EarthLink fraudulently took money from my checking account. Because, I move from a location in Philadelphia utilizing their DSL Service they could not provide the DSL service at my new address. They suggested that I get the Wi-Fi Service. I was also told that because I was still going to be an EarthLink customer and they could not provide the DSL service to my new location, I would not be charged any fees for changing over as long as I returned the equipment. I returned the DSL equipment months ago. I never wanted the Wi-Fi Service but I needed internet access. But against my better judgment, I went for the Wi-Fi service.
I have been trying for over 10 weeks to get the money back. I have been told several times that the check is in the processing. The money (169.00) was removed from my account in November 2007 and it is now February 2008.
The customer service representatives do not tell the truth and the customer service manager in Atlanta (Brandy Wilson) is just as bad. As of 2/15/2008 the check is now suppose to be recut. It is really funny that the first check has never been processed and mailed. So, I do not know why a check has to be recut. The first check was never cut. The customer service manager Brandy Wilson cannot give me a check number or a mail date. EarthLink customer service department does not know anything about customer recover. The company is full of excuses and should be run out of Philadelphia. Do not use this service. |
