Others too

Again reminding you all that Helio and some other carriers had ~$100 unlimited plans for a while now.
so it's not all that groundbreaking.

Re: Others too

Helio and Cricket are the two I've seen mentioned as already having unlimited plans. I've tried both, and returned both. Helio was a little better than cricket, but the cripled Bluetooth the "top" Ocean phone was enough to really piss me off.

Cricket is an absolute joke and not even worth mentioning.

I thought Helio was just an MVNO riding atop Sprint's EVDO network?

If they were smart....

They'd go exactly the opposite direction. "Unlimited" plans tend to attract only those people who are going to really use them, yet the income is capped.

On the other hand, there are a lot of people like me who don't use ENOUGH minutes to justify even the lowest plan.

They really should come out with something like $15/150minute and $20/200minute plans, and then rape people on the overage.

Re: Others too

They are. But oddly enough, while my Virgin Mobile (also rides on sprint) gets great reception, often better than sprint phones themselves, the Helio was horrible. And it's not just one particular VM phone that I've had good luck with, every single one of them has worked in areas people's sprint phones can get a signal in.

Metro PCS FTW

I have unlimited local and long distance....for 35 bucks a month. Granted it is only in a few area's in the US, but how can they have it so cheaply, where the big boys charge 100 bucks?

Perhaps they chose low quality radios for their phones to sell them so cheaply.

Re: If they were smart....

A lot of fully credit worthy people are going with prepaid because of their low volume. There is definitely a market for well crafted low end plans with roll over, or even a zero minute plan for $10 and ten cents a minute for each minute.

I put my parents on my family plan because I was nauseated that they were paying $35 a month for two minutes a month of phone calls. They never used their minutes.

We live on the Canadian border and back when FIDO had the $8 a month plan with no minutes, but a decent rate we subscribed for our cross-border trips. Many months we only went through 60 minutes a month, but there were other months where we racked up 1,000 minutes in Canada.

I think one of the problems for carriers is not whether they have a profitable stream from a customer, but whether they can show a near guaranteed future stream. I think this is as important for accounting purposes and actual dollars earned.

Re: Hello!

They have by far the worst reception. Their pricing is cheap because they skimp on the towers.

If you travel out of your region, you are SOL. The phone aint going to work at all.

Re: Old news

I have that plan as well and love it. I wont be letting go of it until I am literally forced off of it.

Re: Hello!

I went with Virgin mobile Pay-As-You-Go.
I rarely use the phone, so $20 every 3 months does fine for me!

Sprint network so I'm pretty well covered here in The Bay Area.

Metro

I worked at a Metro, they make most there money off the phones they sell not the service. Yes I have it and have and it for years, I now get all the features they wanted extra for for free. Not that I use them, its just good to know im getting the same if not more for less money

Re: Metro

I agree Metro works great. If you have in your area definately get its alot better than VZ (and cheaper!). For $50/mo you get unlimited talk one flat rate with all the extras.
