Comments on news posted 2008-02-24 13:49:58: Qwest has been pretty quiet about its plans for the future since Ed Mueller took over as CEO last year. However, Mueller is starting to open up a little bit about how he’d like to see the company move forward. ..

The future

"Analysts want to know more about Qwest’s impending change in wireless strategies and how the company plans to battle the big telcos in the business."

Maybe his plan is to offload Qwest to one of those telcos...

Maybe. But he sure isn't going to say that to the analysts tomorrow.

VZ doesn't want rural areas, and T might. Plus, what to do about all that debt...

What Qwest needs to do is make a lot of acquisitions. There was an article that I read that listed companies that Qwest could buy. From there I did some research to narrow down the list to some companies.

Qwest ceo to speak

There is no way in God's green earth that Verizon would want anything to do with the state of Arizona. I live in a county here that is approx the size of Mass. with a population of 55,000 people. Verizon is trying to dump it's northern New England states because thy aren't profitable. The state of Arizona is the 6th largest in the country, and all of it's population is basically living in 2 counties. The best that all of us here in Arizona can hope for would be Qwest going to ADSL, or someother similar technology IMO.

Re: The future

New CEO hired by former underling or suggested as a hire. Same ole same ole. Nothing new here. Just those at the top looking for a second or third or fourth retirement with no effort. The contract is a give him. Guaranteed bonus then maybe if a sale or bankruptcy leach more. Plus a retirement in a few years. Most work till death and hope for a retirement. Not the great few. Many retirements back to back with large cash payouts.
