If they were on the right side they would have no problem getting their shill buddies to show up for free.
The fact that they have to bribe people to show up and support them speaks volumes.
This is just Astroturfing personified.

It's kind of like the old saying "it is better to remain quiet and appear foolish than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." I see the protesters as making Comcast appear foolish, and I see this stunt of filling the seats with sleeping Comcast dummies as removing all doubt.
Good job, Comcast. You could have let protesters make you look bad, but instead you made yourself look bad all on your own. Save The Internet is accusing Comcast of busing in a crowd of supports to pack the room. "These seat-warmers were paid to fill the room, a move that kept others from taking part," according to a posting on the Save The Internet blog. "They arrived en masse some 90 minutes before the hearing began and occupied almost every available seat, upon which many promptly fell asleep." Comcast denies packing the room. "We did pay some individuals to stand in line and hold seats for Comcast employees," Comcast spokesperson Charlie Douglas told Ars. "It's a common practice in Washington, DC." Comcast said it hired people to hold seats only after an advocacy group called Free Press urged its backers to attend. "For the past week, the Free Press has engaged in a much more extensive campaign to lobby people to attend the hearing on its behalf," Philadelphia-based Comcast said in a statement. (article link)

| | This is only the beginning Whenever I come across a "comcast supporter", I often wonder why this subscriber comes out to defend a company that their sole existance is buyout the competition and drive up ever increasing prices, have a large monopoly where they can dictate and change the rules as they go along and lie to people and continue be unable to support what they offer. I wonder if they are employed by Comcast...that's the only reason why they show support. Comcast has bandwidth limits that they refuse to tell people what exactly the limits are of their network. They clearly cut off those users that exceed their secret cap which they don't tell people what it is, and they lie about throttling bitorrent when its shown on YOU TUBE that they reset the cable modem connection thereby disrupting the torrent transfer. They are LIARS who have gotten caught and will be facing a class-action lawsuit very soon by angry former subscribers. when that day does happen, that pathetic AUP/TOS will be thrown right out the window and watch a judge make them pay through the roof for deceptive business practices. | |

All I can say is..NICE NAP!
I haven't slept that good in years.

Kidding aside..I do have to agree it's a stupid thing to do and the argument they were hiring "placeholders" for employees who apparently never showed up was just as lame.
The problem is though, if they didn't do it..would the other side do it instead and just pad the room with opposing viewpoints?

| Dreaming IF you guys don't think Verizon, AT&T, Walmart, aren't doing the same thing you guys are naive. How many people actually know about this out side of the "internet blogger" are we all are referred to?. You guys hate Comcast because your reason. I don't like Comcast because of billing. All this fines you want the FCC to hit Comcast with are not going to really happen. Comcast just like Walmart employees whether directly or indirectly thousands of people. So when you say hurt Comcast you are talking about hurting thousands of families out there. As the market changes people will leave comcast on their own. The same thing happen to aol. | |

| | On Time? FCC meeting's rarely start on time, in fact, it is so rare that this meeting starting on time might qualify as a divine act. They paid people to hold a place in line, it happens all the time. Here's what Cynthia Brumfield had to say about it:
"As the Portfolio piece acknowledges "such tactics are not unheard of at congressional hearings in Washington, D.C." That's an understatement. If you've ever tried to get into any important hearing involving any industry, you know that line placeholders (and seatholders) are big business in Washington, DC, often charging $150 or more per person to show up at the Capitol at the crack of dawn."
This is what happens at any hearing, why should one in Boston be any different?
