Qworst

Of course they don't see any point in giving DECENT levels of service[that cuts into profits]
look at the places that do get qwest fibre, the top tier is 5mbps. DSL can do that, why bother?

tatics that help keep them afloat at this point

Qwest is just playing the waiting game at this point as they are too scared to take any risk that may cause damage to what is left of their stock price.

In order to maintain that they are good enough they have been wasting lots of resources, lobbying efforts, time delay to stop others from offering faster service in their areas..

In utah, when a few cities decided to built the wholesale utopia Fiber network and allow independent providers to serve services (internet/TV/phone) using this network, Qwest declined to join them and instead has been doing one thing after the other just to stone wall the project from being completed. They have employed massive legal, lobbying and delay efforts to stop utopia from taking foot hold here. In areas where utopia did manage to finish its network, they started to upgrade the service and lower the price in the those areas to compete with them. Since we only have 2 company that service the area (Qwest/Comcast) and rest are just resellers. we are kind of stuck with them but hopefully utopia gets finished with their primary cities by end the of 2008, then maybe the CEO of qwest be singing a different tune about what needs to be done to build a better future for them.

Qwest has been running a pilot program in Phoenix for years.

Qwest has had Cable TV in Phoenix for many years. It bundles cable TV, phone and Internet. I believe it runs fiber to the home. They actually beat out FIOS by at least 5 years.

Verizon not in Spokane

If Verizon wants to force Qwest's hand they better get into Spokane where the main trunk for the Internet2 resides.
