If you're not stealing

then this doesn't affect you now does it? It's not affecting me. And don't tell me about "legitimate" torrent use. What's that, 0.1%?

How is this the same story? Comcast says they will stop throttling - now we find out they have not, and may not.

We can concentrate on their other misdeeds then.

You'd be wetting yourself over an AT&T or Verizon story a day.

If Comcast wants off the front page they should quit doing things that land them there.

Re: If you're not stealing

I agree with you, BF69. So long as my legitimate data and voice packets flow with minimal delay, I'm happy.

The obvious concern becomes over how Comcast can decide what is legitimate and what is not. We've seen cable companies try to block port 5060 for VOIP traffic as well.

The problem is with the torrent providers and they are who the internet services should go after. Its easy...you see torrents, shut down their Modem.

Please stop it with the self-righteousness. You know NOT of what you speak. Just about every large download available has a torrent.

Fixed typo.

Hitmen?

DSLR should be careful saying his full name..I wouldn't put it past Comcast to send a couple hitmen after his ass.

But, I do use BT - for legal videos.
VUZE anyone?
This DOES affect me - and it's bullshit!

Percentage is irrelavent when *ALL* BT is getting hosed in a blanket action.
We won't mention all the other sources for "illegal" files that cruise right along without impedence.

Why he's the inventor of "Topol: The Smoker's Toothpaste!" of course!

And you can believe it cause you read it on the internet!

NO - they said they would stop WHEN they put new methods in place to handle abusers. And they said it would be year end before that happens.

But if I am not stealing, their throttling IS affecting me. They DO NOT distinguish between the two.

Please cite your references for legitimate use only being 0.1%.

Hey, someone who actually read the Comcast statement where they said they would become protocol agnostic in their bandwidth management in 9 months!

Exactly... How about shutting down all the binary items in the text based news groups. That would probably relieve more traffic than torrent downloads.

Re: Who is Robb Topolski ?

I think my face is on a wall at Comcast. Now that I'm recovered, I'm looking for work. I wonder if they would call me back if I sent them a resume...

PS: I couldn't work for Comcast, anyway, my signature on that FCC petition represents a conflict-of-interest. I actually wouldn't mind working for the locals here, they're great -- from the phone to the office to the field -- I've never had a complaint that they didn't jump on and fix, cheerfully. It's the Philadelphia folks that have spoiled the soup. I keep reminding myself that Comcast is still not as dirty as Enron (who owned Portland General Electric, a white-hat subsidiary).

The issue isn't legal or illegal for Comcast. It is that ALL bittorrent traffic screws up the system. Want to blame someone - blame the developers of a protocol that was designed to be a bandwidth hog on purpose without any regard for any other internet traffic.

Yeah, that's a prompt response -- seeing as how the AP story that busted this wide-open was only 6 months ago.

If they were serious about fixing this, it wouldn't take 9 hours let alone 9 months.

Re-read what Comcast posted. They didn't state they were going to stop managing their network, they stated they were going to be protocol agnostic in their management. (ie, pick on everyone, not just BT)

If they are implementing an interface into the provisioning system to accomplish this like we talked about a few threads ago, that kind of implementation would indeed take time.
