They need to advertise the third option...

Uverse Call Vantage for $25/month.
Pricing for overall is hardly competitive in any market unless they have VoIP, and you need to have the TV service installed just to get Internet or VoIP.

U-Verse HSI/TV

Does anyone know when U-Verse is hitting Toledo, Oh? The only thing i see is AT&T putting up V-RADs which there is one right outside my condo and one down the street at another sub division. But no details on when anything gets turned on.

Re: They need to advertise the third option...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't U-Verse Voice a "private network", like the cablecos VOIP-based offerings, while CallVantage uses the public internet?

Though I'm not sure if that advantage is worth such a high premium...

Yah, nothing like the batteries that fall out of incorrectly installed Comcast power supplies.

The VRAD battery issues were resolved. Nice FUD spreadin' though.

40 a month, ouch. A little high with all the competition out there these days. But I guess there is an idiot on every street corner who will get it. Regardless of price.

That' like saying everyone who gets cable VOIP for $40/month is an idiot.

i would call att and have them move that v-rad. there had a few explode because of bad batterys. also uverse sucks. i had it for only a week. channel took for every to load the more tv i had on the slow my internet connections was. i could only watch one hd channel at a time. most of there on demand cost money too. i went back with comcast. much better and faster service.

I'm guessing you haven't had the service for a few months, eh? My buddy had it installed last week and I'd say it's pretty good. My aunt had it installed before Christmas and I saw it then and was not impressed with the service back then. But I viewed it at my buddy's house the other day and it looks to be on track. Channel changing is fast, DVR is way better than what any cable company has out currently. I will agree with the 1 HD as being sucky, that's the main thing holding me back from trying out the service. If they could get at least 2HD streams and 2SD stream going at the same time I'd be happy. As for VOD, they're just getting it off the ground so it will take some time to build up. Comcast was the same way when their service went live. As for internet speeds, I guess it all depends on what package you had.

I suppose some consider MagicJack more than a toy but most would not consider it competition to carrier-class VoIP. dr3yec See Profile has MagicJack and is happy, which is fine. But calling others who want something of a little more substance "idiots" is rather weak.

The fact that Uverse voice is only available in a few areas vs. Call Vantage available anywhere there's internet is a HUGE difference... and it doesn't need to be bundled.

Battery problem has long since been resolved and the VRAD location is undoubtedly in the Right of Way in a location approved by the governing authority and installed after pulling the required permits from them.

logically, it makes little sense to pay MORE for a service that's provided for significantly less by reputable, national firms. so, yes, idiot is a decent descriptor.

rip off

$40 a month is a rip off.
avoid this like the plague or if you insist upon giving AT&T your business go with CallVantage product instead.

$40 for VOIP???

Okay, so maybe this VOIP doesn't consume your Internet bandwidth, but still...

I'd stick with POTS.

At least with POTS you get line power and very, very high reliability. My experience tells me that of any utilities or services I've ever used POTS is by far the most reliable. Plus don't forget the native support for pulse dial.

Plus, how is faxing and dial-up over this service?

Vonage is the one that most people will have heard of and some would say the jury is still out on that reputable part. Your descriptor might be accurate for those that bought Vonage stock in their IPO.

Re: $40 for VOIP???

That would depend on if you actually use any of those features, and how often.
Sure.. I have a fax. I might use it once every year or so.
To go from AT&T POTS at $57/month (after taxes/fees) to VoIP at $40... I have no issue on getting an internet fax account or going to Kinkos.
Likewise, for dialout, I can always use cheap Skype phone for $3/month unlimited.
