Considering AT&T does not have much 3G coverage except in major metropolitan areas, let's see how the sales do. |

| Sorry for being off topic but, I just noticed your avatar. I watched EFC all the time when it was on. I have I believe Season 3 on DVD, haven't gotten S4 or 5 and cannot find Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. The Taelons were cool. LOL...anyway, back to topic....
I recently used AT&T and was not happy with their network performance. They definitely had some capacity issues. I wonder if it was the fault of the iPhone. |

| reply to atuarre Just because it's a 3G phone does not mean it won't work in non 3G networks. I'm sure the sales will do just fine.. How many people bought original iPods and then forked out cash the following year to get the next version...
The ONLY thing that will crush this device is a sledgehammer.. |

EDGE has sped up some, but it is still very slow. There is no 3G coverage here, so...I cannot comment on that, but from what I know of the build out, they are focusing on major metropolitan areas first.
People who already purchased an iPhone also, I think, will not be purchasing the new device whenever the launch date for the new device is. Hopefully, this time, instead of having people in lines, they will just sell it like a regular phone.
Off topic, you can find all that EFC stuff on-line; just gotta know where to look as S1 and S2 were not released because a different company, to my understanding, produced them.
The new iPhone is just another way for Apple to rape money out of its users. They released one in '07, and now in '08 they have released another, and unless they found a way to improve the battery life, I do not think it will be worth the money. You can barely use the EDGE version as the battery life is pathetic. |

I'm not an apple fan by any stretch and am definitely not for ATT at all but from what i've seen of the iphone on edge the 3g version I would (and will) probably switch to.. |

Off topic.....I know where I can get the other two seasons. Its too bad Seasons 1 and 2 were never released.
I live in Seattle which is a major metro market. It is a 3G market. The phones I had were 3G and the performance for voice sucked pretty bad. It look a long time for a call to connect if it would go through at all. Although, I do believe the latter part is capacity issues on the receiving end's carrier too. The data portion was ok though. I couldn't get used to the lag in call connections and call drops so I left AT&T. |

I wont be buying one, 3g isnt out near me. But when they extend the coverage I will be the first one to get it. |

Anyone placing bets on this June 9th release date? I would take this story with a HUGE grain of salt even though everyone is expecting the 3G version very soon. |

My 3G phone has EDGE. I'm guessing the 3G iPhone will be the same. So if you don't have 3G in your area and don't have an iPhone then it's still worth it. It will work as well as the current iPhone and you'll be ready when 3G is turned on in your area or you travel somewhere with 3G. |

The only reason why I have an iphone it's because 1. I got the 8gig version for 200 bucks... I bought it off a buddy of mine, and 2. because I'm not paying for the service.
I am using my crackberry's sim card in it. I like the phone I'm not crazy about it though. It works well as an iPod.
I'm walking around with a sprint ppc6800 that does everything that iphone wishes it could do. The feature that I like the most about my WinMobile phone is that I can use it as a modem. |

The iPhone is nothing but a fashion accessory and contrary to popular belief, is not even the second coming of the Razr, much less Jesus H. Christ.
I shake my head in bewilderment at the few people I've seen walking around with them ... of course, paying $200 for a pair of Jordan sneakers is borderline insanity too ...
My XV6700 with WM6 isn't as "pretty" as the iPhone, but it's a hell of a lot more functional and it's like 4 years old. |

But I think apple will add the things that are missing from the first version Yeah... NO. Apple will not do shit. They sold all these EDGE iPhones and the only major thing they have had to offer since their release is the iTunes WiFi store, and little patches along the way. They are not even accepting a lot of the developers which are applying for their SDK.
And I guess a month or two down the road, after they release the new, 3G iphones, the price will drop by $100-$200 dollars, just like they did before.
Apple has not done anything major with the iPhone yet and if you follow the community, you will find a great device with a lot of broken promises and disappointment. |

| reply to atuarre Well here's what I wonder. Are the fools that wasted their money on this overpriced piece of garbage able to flash their firmware to support 3G or does the chip within the phone limit speeds? I know hardware has a lot to do with things, but so does software. I highly doubt the people that rushed out would be given this luxury even if it was available, though. Apple wants people to toss their phones and go buy new. Sadly, there are plenty of idiots out there that will do it, too. Yes, anyone that pays 500 for a proprietary phone, then 80 to replace the battery, etc is an idiot. One would be much better off buying a Nokia with 30 FPS video capture and high quality video, than buying the Iphone. Hell, my 400 dollar sprint phone can do most of the stuff the Iphone does and I have had it 3 years now. I can even change my own battery without HAVING to pay someone as its not soldered in. |

Really? you shake your head? With your current phone, can you change your flight from the taxi on the way to the airport? Transfer money on the AMEX site? Order groceries? Not to mention, watch movies (in basically HD), have photo's of my kids with me all the time, and 30 other things. I stopped traveling with my laptop because of my iphone, something I thought I could do with my tilt and blackjack but could not. Yes it has it's limitations, but the iphone is worth way more to me then 499..even in it's current form. |

I have an HTC 3g device and my biggest problem with it is that it SUCKs battery life. I wonder if Apple has fixed it.
Also I can tell you that I go through at least four times as much data usage as the 100 megs listed. |

You cant FLASH a device to support 3G , its hardware based. As a side note 3G has features which make it worth the upgrade. Voice and Data at the same time, and 3G speeds. Another thing is that once 3G is everywhere , GSM is going to become a minority. With UMTS becoming the norm, with LTE riding its coattails. -- Say no to fear. Dont let anxiety crush your life. Live life free and unfettered.
