ATT wi-fi @ Starbucks has been working in various spots in Calif for several weeks for me:
-Laptop w/ wifi on, open browser, type in t-mobil.com.
-Page appears with T-Mobile log-in screen AND an AT&T login button.
-ATT login button opens window for sign-on with ATT dsl account info.

almost all the "little coffee shops" offer wireless for free. So does Panera Breads which is one of Starbucks' competitors.
When I'm looking for a wifi connection, I typically pull up google maps on my Treo, and search for "coffee shop" in my area. I think I've gotten free wifi every time for months. |

Ditto for me. I don't know if the coming roll out is what we've already seen or a complete replacement of the current landing page.
I'm also very curious about wether they're replacing their back haul. As I understand it the T-Mobile sites are currently served by expensive and relatively slow T1 connections. As AT&T is also an ISP in a large part of the footprint one would think they'd use their own DSL lines.
I wonder why T-Mobile never used the Starbucks relationship to broaden their cellular footprint? A pico-cell on every Starbucks would have gone a long way.

Ugh not a fan of free wi-fi. Starbucks is ALREADY over crowded... now with free wifi it'll be impossible to get a chair let alone an outlet. I'd rather pay!

With Starbucks stock at an all time low as customers shun the idea of paying for $4 coffees, they had better just give free WiFi access to ANY customer willing to pay them the $4.
The other coffee shops I now frequent (as opposed to Starbucks because I've found better alternatives) mostly offer free WiFi.
If Starbucks wants to reinvent itself for its shareholders, they better start with looking at the competition, which DOES offer free WiFi without any ifs, and, or buts. No card punches required. |

I do agree. I do not like the 14 year old crowd in the places here in NJ. My opinion - you do NOT need damn coffee that young -I wasn't even allowed out at even that age -let alone caffeine. Or a laptop.

| This has been working for a few months now in Norcal, the little icon in the upper right corner directing ATT customers to login. Takes you to a second login page and then back to authentication on t-mobile. I haven't been able to get it to work at the ATT airports, like ORD yet though.
Since I have ATT dsl, AND a starbucks card, I guess it is going to still be free. |

I haven't seen anyone shunning anything, the lines at every Starbucks I know of (and I am a heavy user) are longer than ever.
