Virgin Mobile U.S. profit down

Gee, after raising rates, moving tech support overseas, and releasing one cripled phone after another, who would have thought that profits and subscriber count would drop!

Dissolving Sprint

One wonders how long the current Sprint Nextel will last- a standalone all CDMA/EVDO wireless company seems to be its planned future. This would probably be more acquisition friendly than the current CDMA/EVDO+iDEN+Long Distance/Internet Network+WiMAX(maybe) company...

Alltel has always seemed like the best suitor for Sprint's CDMA/EVDO network, but I wonder how much money the private equity backers really have access to in the current credit crunch.

Spinning off Xohm in a joint venture with Clearwire, Intel, and the Cablecos makes sense for Xohm and a Sprint wanting to remain independent, but it does reduce the value of Sprint's cellular division for any buyer by moving away some of Sprint's large spectrum assets.
