| 300MB & Altering an Agreement My Parents are now retired and bought a motor home. They plan on driving around the U.S. and stopping at all of the RV Parks. Those Parks WiFi connections are a joke unless you're in the clubhouse. So, they bought the EVDO card a couple of months ago.
They plan on visiting our relatives through out the U.S. and using Skype for video calls back to our relatives here. A LOT of relatives do not have broadband. With a 300mb cap on roaming internet, we could probably talk for a few minutes. Heck, even 5GB wouldn't be that much in a months time.
When they received the service, they signed a two year contract. I still don't think a contract should be altered once all parties agree to the terms. In fact, it should be illegal. | |

| Lifecasters are going to feel the hurt I wonder how this will go over for lifecasters (the obvious route would be that they go indoors/wifi only) -- I know most of them have been using Sprint Mobile Broadband cards to broadcast so far because of the caps, and i'm pretty sure they eat through obscene amounts of bandwidth every month or so. | |

| Not All Evdo has caps Alltel does not have any caps been using it for a year and a half no caps and if they put up caps I would surely drop them and go with wildblue figure if you are going to pay the same amount anyway you might as well get more for your money and wildblue has higher caps then 5gb. I would go back to dialup before I paid 60.00 a month for something with a 5gb cap my theory is if all you can do is look at websites with it anyway you might as well have dialup | |

| Glad I am with Millenicom...NO EVDO CAP... If you read here:
»Answers from Millenicom
You will get down to a post direct from Millenicom that tells us there will be NO CAP from them. They imply they are working a new system and apparently using new equipment. It's still under negotiations but they flat out said NO CAPS...screw Sprint...
btw, if Sprint mirror's Verizon, et. al. (especially after this new Xohm/WiMax or whatever the crap they call it this week) deal was announced. One wonders if this is the final needed bit of info to show collusion. There was far less proof when MLB owners were convicted of collusion to keep free agent salaries down... -- Using Millenicom? | broadband meter? well, i spend 3-4hrs a day tethering my pam plan to a laptop.... we're talking web browsing, streaming radio stations, youtube, qt trailers, video conferencing... (yes, i have a hellish commute to/from work)....
i wonder if i might hit the cap....
i think i need a broadband meter to track how much mg/gb i'm using... would suck to get notices and possible interruption for this type usage... -- "...life is a state of mind......." | |

| Don't feel so bad going with Verizon now I switched from HughesNet satellite service to Verizon EVDO a few months ago, because it is the only receivable EVDO signal in my rural area (Sprint's antennas are all blocked by hills). I always had a feeling Sprint would match Verizon's caps sooner or later; their financial woes pretty much guaranteed it.
I just wish the EVDO carriers would offer higher tiers. I would gladly pay $99 a month for, say, a 20Gb cap. Still way better than HughesNet service! | |

| 5G cap confusion I have been a Sprint customer for many years, over 10 on voice and 3 on my data card. I emailed Sprint today about the 5G cap, questioning whether it applied to my connection card, here was the response:
Dear Colburn Crockett,
Thank you for contacting Sprint. I will be happy to assist you about the Connection Card and Phone as a modem.
Yes, it is correct that Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5 GB/month in total or 300 MB/month while roaming off network. This also goes for Conennection card and phone as a modem.
I would like to inform you that this also apply for EVDO laptop card or to phone as modem. Also, I would like to inform you that you will not
be able to use this service in roaming.
It is a pleasure assisting you. Have a nice day!
Sincerely, Suzanne P. Sprint
Now, to me that sounded like it WOULD apply, so I mailed back that I planned to cancel my longstanding relationship Sprint and that I thought it was a dumb move for a company thats bleeding customers. They responded with this:
Dear Colburn Crockett,
Thank you for your reply.
Sprint believes that all of our customers should get the best service possible from their broadband. That means speedy downloads for all users, not just a few.
When someone is downloading a particularly large amount of information over a long period of time, repeatedly, it can slow down speeds for other users who might just be checking their e-mail or browsing online. So to make sure Sprint service is fair for everybody, Sprint is encouraging the right kind of use on the network.
Further, I noticed that you have Connection Card with unlimited data plan of $59.99 on the line #7301. Therefore, you do not need to worry about exceeding the GB's while using the connection card or phone as a modem.
This update has been sent specially to all the customer who does not have the unlimited data access pack.
Therefore, I assure you that this statement will not affect you as the unlimited data plan is added on the line.
It is a pleasure assisting you. Have a nice day!
Sincerely, Suzanne P. Sprint
SSSOOOOO, now it would seem we existing customers WON'T be affected by it. My contract is obviously up, so I will just continue to use my card as usual and see what happens. They seem confused themselves, look at the original reply from Suzanne, first it says 300m cap on roaming, then it says "Also, I would like to inform you that you will not be able to use this service in roaming."

| I do not need to worry? I love my EVDO service so when I heard about this, I got worried. I got the following response from Sprint regarding my account. Apparently I don't need to worry about this?
----
Thank you for contacting Sprint regarding the information about the cap on Internet access.
Currently, the $59.99 Connection Card plan is active on your account. This plan includes unlimited Internet access using your connection card.
This plan also includes unlimited domestic roaming feature, which avoid any overage while using the card anywhere in US.
Please do not worry about the overage as your connection card plan includes unlimited Internet access for using the connection card within US.
However, a cap of $99.99 is applicable with the $39.99 Connection Card plan. This plan allows to access upto 40MB (Megabyte) of data using the connection card. With this plan, the account will be charged maximum $99.99 for using data access over 40 MB limitation.
If there is anything else I can assist you with, please don't hesitate to write back to me. I will be happy to assist you. Have a nice day. -- President/CEO - Pacy World - »www.pacyworld.com | |

| Re: I do not need to worry? I've been a big supporter Sprint's EVDO cards for personal use and business use. The company I work for now has nearly 500 of their cards deployed based off of my suggestions and research but with this data cap in place, it takes away our number 1 reason to go with them over Verizon. | |

| ... Here's the response I got:
Thank you for contacting Sprint. I understand your concern related to the changing the terms and conditions for Mobile Broadband Connection Plans.
Yes, you are right that Sprint is changing the terms and conditions for Mobile Broadband Connection Plans, Data Access Plans, and Phone as Modem Plans to include usage limitations. This change goes into effect for all customers as of July 13, 2008. The specific change adds the following limitations:
- Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred, and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if usage either exceeds 5GB/month in total, or 300MB/month while roaming.
- In other words, if a customer exceeds the data amounts that Sprint has specified, Sprint may modify usage behaviors, terminate, suspend, or disconnect the customer?s service.
I would also like to inform you that we believe that all of our customers should get the best service possible from their broadband. That means speedy downloads for all users, not just a few. However, when someone is downloading a particularly large amount of information over a long period of time, repeatedly, it can slow down speeds for other users who might just be checking their e-mail or browsing online. So to make sure Sprint service is fair for everybody, Sprint is encouraging the right kind of use on the network.
We are notifying our customers via a bill message to make our customer aware these changes on the account. It allows customers the opportunity to review their data usage. -- Asus P5N-E SLI|E4500|2 GB DDR2 800|8800GT|Audigy + Front Bay|Hauppauge PVR-150MCE|Vista Ultimate + XP Pro SP2 dual boot|Sony Vaio VGN-CR290|Sprint Mobile Broadband|Netgear WGR614v8 | |

| Sprint Caps I just spoke to a rep for over 2 hours. It took this long because she had no idea what I was talking about, I had to tell her I read about it on the www. She had to ask tech specialists, 2 supervisors just to find out about the change. Pathetic.
YES Sprint is capping at 5gb and 300mb for roaming. I pay $60 for an unlimited usage which will no longer exist. They will give a written notice in the May billing as to the change. You will have 2 months to opt out with no early termination fee.
I asked to see an announcement on sprint.com where they announced this and she said there is nothing on their site. I asked why they are hiding this info from us??? I repeatedly asked why they are not coming clean!!! What is really appalling is that when you log into your account on their site it says "there is no usage data for this account" so you have no idea how much you use with them. It took her 30 minutes to tell me my monthly usage.
I explained to the rep I considered this to be breach of my 2 years contract for unlimited usage with Sprint. She said they can change the TOS anytime they like.
I said I expected a refund for my equipment, she said that was going to happen. Force me out my contract then I expect you to take back your 5 month old equipment. Time for class action lawsuit. Why should I have to own this equipment if you sell me something based on false advertising about unlimited usage and we sign a contract which you break?
Should I also tell you that Sprint sells your personal info? OH YES, look up your data card phone number on the www for cell phone lookup, it has your name and the phone number and for $25 you can buy the personal info related to the number including address, neighbors, number of kids. Go see. All this for a DATA CARD phone number. You are BUSTED Sprint.
Sprint, you suck and I am coming for you. | |

| Re: Sprint Caps I called them at 10:30 am this morning and they denied EVERYTHING, told me the cap was just a rumor on the internet, that I'm paying for unlimited data and will continue to get unlimited data. Then she added if the plans change it will not affect me since the change occured after I signed on. She was either lying or uninformed, I've been in other forums and people have posted the exact language in their bill notifying them of the change. Not much we can do but take a wait and see approach. I just cancelled my AT&T account less than a month ago, because sprint's evdo coverage is far better than AT&T's HSDPA. AT&T has a cap too, but as far as I can tell, there is zero enforcement of it. I'm hoping sprint is taking a similar approach, and not enforcing it except in extreme circumstances. I guess after 7/13, I stop streaming, and only use it to browse boring static, 1994-style web pages. If they kick me off, then I'll just go back to AT&T. | |

| My Response to Sprint If Sprint is capping the unlimited plan, than I will cancel my account. No way will I pay $60.00 per month for 5 Gigs. Plain an simple. Its to much for to little. I came from Satellite, and was very happy with Sprints data plan. Several neighbors have it on my recommendation as we in this little town have no other option. But with the price of heating oil, Gas and everything else in this country going out of site, the computer has low priority. The thing is, how price changes like this affect other companies. I wonder how many people will change there mind on that new laptop or 3G iPhone with only a 5 Gig option with all carriers. My email and other internet needs will go back to dial-up and the computer will be less important. Also my cell phones will go to pay as you go like a tracphone. Off the box.... | |

| Data Service On the north side of Chicago, there is still no fiber data. I/we do not watch TV, so I will NOT buy a cable/phone/data package. I looked into a dish-based data connex, but have no clear line of sight to the top of the buildings in downtown. I will pay for POTS, fiber to my door, but not a penny for a cable system dedicated to TV. No one offers a package with no cable TV and no phone service.
So I pull a LOT of data on this Cingular/ATT data card. My employer pays the bill on this, and the card works almost everywhere I've ever tried, except mobile in a car in Iowa.... | |

| Re: Data Service I am an independent IT consultant and travel a-LOT. Thus, my AT&T Aircard is my ONLY internet connection. It aint cheap; $69/mo on top of my voice plan, and another $30 to keep my cell phone connected, too, because I need maps, email, and text msgs even when I don't have my laptop. In total, about $200/mo with AT&T.
Last month, between VPN's, email attachments, program uploads and downloads, and maintaining my web servers remotely I used up 42GB easy. I looked at my bill and AT&T is still honoring the "unlimited" plan I signed up for. AT&T network connections are spotty in some areas (speed drops to about dial-up) but still usable. The areas where I need it most I still average about 1,250Kbps; pretty good.
If Sprint is going to cap, and you are worried about exceeding the measly 5GB limit, check out AT&T. | |

| Cancelling Sprint Data Card I called in today to cancel my Sprint datacard. I originally got the card to use with my laptop because Time/Warner Cable took over my internet cable service from Comcast, and it became unstable and unreliable. The first year was okay, then in March of this year I began getting daily fluxuating speeds that were 50KB/s downloads up to the promised 700KB/s. After many attempts and service orders and finally verifying that the card was fine but the service wasn't...I thought I should try and terminate the contract that had six months left on it. I looked up "cancel Sprint datacard" on Google and for the first time saw the 5MB limit vs. unlimited change. Hurrah! Since they are changing the service agreement, I can legally cancel my service without penalty easier than canceling for poor service.
Calling Sprint was an experience in itself. I was literally shaking with anger as I tried to control my voice and what I said. Of course, the rep didn't want me to cancel. She wanted to deny that the contract was changed, or that I could cancel without penalty, but I had already verified I could with a service agent a week prior. The announcement of the change was in this month's billing statement. I finally said she needed to pass me on to someone who was able to cancel, since I wasn't willing to answer any more questions regarding "solving the problem of slow data downloads/uploads". She placed me on hold and came back and said I would be cancelled. Now I plan to call back and verify the cancellation is indeed in place and that I won't be charged a cancellation fee. From all the post I've ready on various sites, the most important keys to getting things done is documentation and checking back. An informed consumer is a powerful consumer.
p.s. DSL is now available in my area and is my next source of frustration, no doubt. | |

| it was sprint's only way to gain they just announced a new unlimited plan for phones but putting a 5gb cap screws BUSINESSES with VPN's which is what it was advertised good for!
sprint has a very large business base (nextel/sprint) and they will loose a huge portion of business customers with a cap they know will be ran up like crazy!
verizon could never beat this feature!
SPRINT WHAT ARE YOU THINKING????
our company uses about 20 mobile broadband cards thru sprint and the only reason we used sprint for it was the NO CAP! we have about 150mb of information running thru mobile workstations on a DAILY BASIS!
